Opening Weekend in Kansas City Postponed
St. Ambrose will have to wait a little longer to get the 2010 season
started. The Bees' opening weekend of games in Kansas City, Mo., scheduled for
Feb. 13-14, has been postponed due to the weather. The games against Bellevue
and Avila may be made up at another time.
Clearwater, Florida is the 2010 home for the Bees
Spring Trip. The Winning Inning in Clearwater, Florida is where
the Bees will be taking spring trip this year for some good and exciting
baseball. The Bees will open up play Thursday March 11,2010 at Eckerd
College. First pitch will be thrown at 7:05 pm. Schedule is still in
the works and will be updated as we get updated.
Baseball Team to help out with Big Brothers Big
Sisters.
They baseball team will be giving a baseball clinic and play games
with the young boys and girls of Big Brothers Big Sisters today on St. Ambrose
University campus. "This is a great way to give back to our communities
youth, as well as letting these kids see how fun baseball or softball can be."
said sophomore catcher Scott Blanchette.
Four Bees Named
All-MCC
Jeff Gauley and Casey Schuenemann were named to the first team and Kyle
Matkaitis and Kyle Merten earned honorable mention as the All-Midwest Collegiate
Conference Baseball Team was announced today.

Bees advance in MCC tournament.
The Bees survive and move on to day 2 of the Midwest Collegiate Conference
Tournament. After beating Waldorf College in Game 1 with a come from
behind 12-11 victory, the Bees come from behind again to pull off a 3-2 thriller
against Grand View College. "This was one of the best games that I have
been apart of in my entire baseball carrier." Said Pitching Coach Jason
Belk.
Everyone in the line-up had a hit in game one against a very fired-up Waldorf
team. After the Bees jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 2 innings of play,
Waldorf College took a 11-5 lead after 5 1/2 innings of play. That is when
the Bees came buzzing back scoring 7 runs in 3 innings to win 12-11. Chris
Paul was the pick to click, going 4-5 with 3 RBI's and a HR. Casey
Schuenemann and David Moore both had big 2 RBI doubles in the game. Jeff
Gauley, Sean Murphy, Eric Roberts, and Kyle Merten all added two hits a
piece as well. Mitch Dunlap started and Kyle Matkaitis game in to shut down the
Waldorf offense to pick-up the win.
In Game 3 of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Bees were down
2-0 in the first inning against Grand View College. But the game would
stay that way until the bottom of the 6th inning, when Casey Schuenemann came up
with a huge 2-out RBI base hit. The Bees then put runners on second and
third with two outs, when Sean Murphy hit a ball into right center field for 2
RBI's to give the Bees a 3-2 lead after 7 innings of great baseball. Evan
Cooling and the Bees defense took over from there. "Evan came up big
tonight and I believe he got stronger each inning he pitched." Said Head
Baseball Trainer John James. Evan went all 9 innings to claim the 3-2
victory and send the Bees into a 3:30 pm match-up against William Penn
University tomorrow at River Front Stadium in Waterloo, IA.
Jeff Gauley Named MCC Player of the Week
Junior outfielder Jeff Gauley was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Player
of the Week on Tuesday, April 28, after an outstanding week. He batted .526
(10-of-19) with two doubles, four triples, a home run and eight RBIs over five
games last week.
The highlight of his week came in a 16-10 win at Ashford. Gauley finished
5-for-5 and hit for the cycle in reverse order. The leadoff hitter started the
game with a home run, added a triple and a double in the second inning and
finished the cycle with a single in the fourth. He drew a walk and singled in
his final two at bats.
Bees split against Waldorf College.
Bees drop game one, 5-1 in Forest City, IA. The offense never came off
the bus in game one, as the Bees scored one run on three hits. In game
two, the Bees offense came to life with 15 hits and 11 runs. Kyle Merten
was the big bat of the game going 3-4 2B, 2 HR and 4 RBI's. "I want to
thank my parents for helping out the club today and I just made a minor
adjustment at the plate in the second game and it worked." Said game two
hitting star Kyle Merten. Chris Paul and Riley Jenkins each had home runs
and Tyler Mallonee added 3 hits as well. Kyle "Stan" Matkaitis went 7
inning to pick-up the victory.
The Bees will play game 3 of the 3 series Saturday April 25, 2009 at 12 pm.
Bees sweep the Saints of Ashford University.
Jeff Gauley, in game one, hit for the cycle in four at bats in the first four
innings. Jeff lead the game off with a home run. lead the second
inning off with a triple and in his third at bat in the same inning hit a
double. Jeff's fourth at-bat in the fourth inning was a RBI single to
complete the cycle. Jeff would add another hit in the seventh inning to go
5-5 and 3 RBI's and a walk for game one. The Bees won game one 16-10, Mark
Barajas went 3 innings to pick-up the victory. In game two, the Bees put
together 10 singles, 2 doubles and a triple to complete the sweep and win 12-5.

Bees wait out rain to defeat Clarke 15-5.
After a 1:53 weather delay, the Bees matched a 4-run second inning by Clarke
College with there own 4-run spot in the bottom have of the inning. The
Bees bats took off from there, coming through with key 2 out hits and a couple
of well hit balls into Assistant Baseball coaches favorite store, the Gap, help
the Bees cruise to a 15-5 victory. "Hitting is contagious and I believe
that everyone is getting on that train to see where this ride can take us."
Said Jeff Gauley. "Our hitters have been pressing way to much lately and
now we are just letting the game come to us and having fun."
Kyle Matkaitis picked up the 5 inning victory and Jeff Gauley went 4 for 4
with 2 triples, double and 3 RBI's, Chris Paul was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's, Kyle
Merten went 3 for 4 double, and a 2 RBI home run that went 383 feet, and Casey
Schuenemann had a RBI sac fly and a 2 RBI home run. Eric Roberts, Tyler
Mallonee, and David Moore added 2 hits apiece as well.
Game 3 of the 3 game series was cancelled due to weather conditions and will
be played Friday April 24, 2009 in Dubuque, IA. Game time is slated for
6:07 pm at
A.J. Spiegel Park in Peosta, Iowa.
Clarke College cancelled for today.
Sunday April 19, 2009 games scheduled at 6 pm at Modern Woodman Park have been
cancelled and rescheduled for Monday April 20, 2009 with the first pitch of the
conference double-header slated for 6:37 pm. Former player and now super
fan Pat Hogan, will be throwing out the first pitch.
The Bees took game 1 of the 3 game set 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. Evan
Cooling went the distance of 9 innings striking out 11with allowing only 2
walks. "I had about 15 family and friends in the stands watching today and
I really wanted and needed to step-up for our team. I felt great today and
wanted the ball in my hands. I had my dirty stuff today and just
wanted to help the team out with getting a win." Said Evan Cooling. David
Moore game up big with a huge 2 out, 2 strike hit to drive what ended up being
the game winning hit of the game. "I have been struggling at the plate and
I really needed that hit. " Said David Moore. The Bees played great
defense behind Evan toady and received the timely hitting to pick up the
conference win. The Bees move to 14-18 overall and 7-9 in conference.
Bees fight comes too late against the Saints.
The Bees drop to 2-4 in conference play with a 10-6 loss to the Saints of
Ashford University on Wednesday April 1, 2009. The Saints came out
swinging and never stopped all game long and took a 7-1 lead into the 8th
inning. When the Bees decided to play the game off baseball and started a
late inning rally, that fell about 15 feet short of home plate. "The team
came out flat tonight and we have to give credit to Ashford's team and coaching
staff, they came to play and beat us tonight." Said former player Pat Hogan.
"I have faith in may former teammates and roommates that they will refocus and
start to play some Bees baseball."
Bees sting themselves and drop a pair to the Saints.
Baseball is a game of inches and timely execution, both of which the Bees did
not accomplish against the Saints of the University of St. Francis. The
Bees lost game one 3-2, but left two runners in scoring position in the 7th
inning. In the night cap game, the Bees didn't turn a routine double play,
in the 6th inning, to keep a 5-4 lead and lost the game 6-5. "We are very
close to finding our team and start to and will win these one run games.
The team knows what mistakes they have been making and understand what fine
tuning they need to make, so that they can come through and win our next close
or 1 run game." Said Head Coach Jim Callahan.
Bees jump all over Northwestern (IA) in night cap.
The Bees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on single by Jeff Gauley
(2-4, 2b) and a double by David Moore (2-3). With runners on second and
third base, Chris Paul (1-3, 3 RBI) and Casey Schuenemann (2-4, 3b, 2 RBI) both
had RBI ground outs to the right side of the field. The Bees would add two
more runs in the 3rd and then 3 more runs in the 4th inning, with the big blow
coming off the bat of Dave Norkus (1-1, 2-run HR, 2 RBI) A towering 411
ft. 2-run homer to right center field. "I really felt great at the plate
today and I just wanted to put a good swing on it. I guess the swing was
to good, because I broke my bat on it." Said new power hitter Dave Norkus.
Starter Mitch Dunlap (2-1) pick-up his second win on the year, while Jacob
Alexander came in and pitched three strong innings of relief to finish off the
Northwestern baseball club.
Timely hitting and good pitching downs the Trojans.
Kyle Matkaitis (2-1) went 5 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 3
strikeouts to pick-up the win. While the bats came through at the when
needed. The Bees scored two in the 3rd inning on a Jeff Gauley (2-4, 2b,
RBI) sac fly and a miss handled throw to third base. But in the 5th inning,
Casey Schuenemann (3-3, HR, 4 RBI's) hit a high fly ball to deep left field that
scrapped the back of the wall for a grand slam and allowed the Bees to go up
7-0. Nick Egan also had two hits in the game.
Rivera comes up big for the Bees.
Manny Rivera (1-0) comes up big in his first collegiate start for the Bees
against Siena Heights University. Manny went a strong 4 innings, giving up
only one run on 3 hits while striking out 5. "It really felt great to get
a opportunity to step-up and come through for this pitching staff and baseball
team." Said Manny Rivera Mark Barajas came into game in the fifth to
hold and close the door to pick up his second save.
Bees drop night cap 7-2 to Warner University.
The Bees came out flat under the lights against tournament host school Warner
University. Warner scored 7 runs in the first four innings and that was
enough to run the Bees to 2-2 in the tournament and 3-4 overall for the year.
Bees loose close game to the Night Hawks
Thomas University of Georgia used a 4-run 4th inning to not only knock out
starting pitcher Mitch Dunlap (1-1), but it was all they needed to win the game.
The Bees did make it interesting in the top half of the 5th inning, by scoring 4
runs on a couple of walls a sac fly by Jeff Gauley (2-3, RBI) and a 2 RBI double
by Chris Paul (1-3, 2 RBI's) to deep left center field to make it a 1 run game.
Bees go down fighting in the 7th inning, but came up short in a 5-4
defeat. This runs the Bees to 2-1 in the tournament and 3-3 on the
year. Warner University will be the Bees next game tonight at 8:00pm to
finish the 4 game round robin tournament play.
Bees win two games on Florida spring trip.
The Bees opened up play on Florida spring trip, at the Warner University
Tournament with two wins. In game one, the Bees had to play some
free baseball to beat Siena Heights University 1-0 in 10 innings. Starter
Evan Cooling went a strong 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 8 strike outs, before
handing the ball over to Jon Merrick. Jon went 3 innings allowing only one
hit to pick-up his first win in a Bees uniform.
Riley Jenkins leadoff the 10th inning with a single and stole second on Nick
Egan's strike out. Michael O'Neil was intentionally walked and Sean Murphy
also drew a walk to load the bases. Jeff Gauley hit a 1-1 pitch to right
field to score Riley Jenkins for the game winning run.
In Game two, the Bees came out swinging against 6th rank Bellevue University,
scoring 6 runs in the first two innings. Chris Paul's (3-4, 4 rbi's) 3-run
homer down the left field line was the first big blow of the game. With
Bellevue fighting back to make it a 7-6 game going into the top of the 6th
inning. Casey Schuenemann (2-3, 2 rbi's) hit a 2-run homer that went deep into
the Florida's Natural Orange Grove. Kyle Merten (2-3, 2 rbi's) scored the
10th run on a Nick Egan (1-3, rbi) sac fly to centerfield.
Starter Kyle Matkaitis (1-1) went 3 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 4
strike outs to pick-up the win. Jacob Alexander receives a hold for his
2.2 innings of relief and Mark Barajas closed the door for his first save.
McKendree Series Cancelled.
The McKendree College four game series will be rescheduled for March 31, 2009.
Due to the cold weather and poor playing conditions, this weekend series has
been cancelled.
Bees drop a pair of games in Memphis, TN.
The Bees drop a pair of games against Crichton College on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, the bats were as cold as the Yankee clipper that rolled into
Memphis, TN. The Crichton Comets pitching staff only allowed 5 hits, all
being singles, and no runs to preserve the 5-0 shutout.
In game two, the Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a couple of extra base hits
off starter Dave Norkus. "I just left a couple of change-ups up in the
zone and my mom can hit those mistakes." said Dave Norkus. But your Bees
came right back and scored two runs on Chris Paul's two RBI triple down the
right field line. The score stayed 2-2 until the bottom of the 8th inning when
the Comets scored the winning run on fielder choice to the shortstop Sean Murphy
with the bases loaded. The Comets won 3-2 in 8 innings and drops the Bees
record to 1-2 and well travel down to Lebanon, IL to play a 4 game set on Friday
and Saturday against McKendree College.
"The pitchers were good for the first time out and live, the defense was great
for the first time out on dirt and the hitting was overall pretty good for the
first time seeing live arms. " said Head Coach Callahan. "We came down
south and played with a team that has been outside practicing since the first
week in January and had a chance to win every game."
Bees wait out rain to win season opener.
After waiting out a 6 hour rain delay, the Bees played to a 14-3 2009 season
opener victory over the Comets of Crichton College in Memphis, TN.
Crichton jumped out to a early 1-0 lead with a RBI double off of starting
pitcher Evan Cooling in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second
inning, the Bees bats came alive with three base hits from Chris Paul, Casey
Schuenemann and Riley Jenkins. Jenkins base hit tied the game at 1-1 and a
wild pitch, a walk and then another RBI base hit from Michael O'Neil, put the
Bees up 3-1 and never looked back from there.
Casey Schuenemann hit a shot into right center field to score the Bees fourth
run with a RBI triple and then scored on a over throw to put the Bees up 5-1 in
the third inning. RBI sac fly in the seventh by Riley Jenkins and a 3 RBI
double by Kyle Merten in the eighth inning, put the final blow to the Comets.
The Bees added five more runs in the ninth inning with RBI base hits form Jeff
Gauley and Sean Murphy.
Mitch Dunlap pitched 4 inning of relief with allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run
and 2 strikeouts to pick-up the win and go 1-0 on the new season. Starter
Evan Cooling went 3 innings allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and recorded 3
strike outs. Jon Merrick closed the door in the last two inning and allow
1 earned run on 1 hit and 2 strike outs.
The Bees will play a double header Sunday starting at 12 pm to finish up the 3
game set.

Your Bees will open up play this weekend in Memphis, TN against Crichton College
(1-2). Saturday's double-header is scheduled to start at 1 pm and Sunday's
9-inning game is scheduled for a 1:30 pm start. If you are in the area,

Former Bees players making there mark in Arizona
Winter Baseball League.
Joey Martin has been referred to as "the find of the year." by one of the
Chill coaching staff. Joey is in the early running for the MVP of the
league. Joey has been crushing the ball since day one and continues to get
better.
Joey is hitting .371 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, the teams only homerun, and 8
RBI's in 11 games at third base.
Casey Raisbeck is starting to heat up after slow start to the season.
"Really has not seen a lot of pitches to hit and when he does get a pitch to
hit, he has hit the ball hard around the field. But with nothing really to
show for it." said Chill coaching staff.
Casey is hitting .286 with 1 double and 6 RBI's. Along with 7 walks in 11
games played in right field.
Raisbeck comes through with first extra base hit.
Casey Raisbeck came through with a huge two RBI double, to help secure another
come from behind Chill victory Sunday. Casey, who has scared the opposing
teams pitchers with his huge pecks and arms, was walked four times prior to the
late inning at bat. "It was huge for my confidence at the plate and it
also helped get that small crack monkey off my back, by hitting that extra base
hit. I am just taking one day at a time and just hope to help the team
win." said Casey Raisbeck.
Joey Martin crushes his first homerun of the short season.
Joey Martin got a hanging curveball and just crushed it over the left
centerfield fence. "I was sitting on his curveball and I put a good swing
on it." said Joey. It was his first homerun of the season and the
teams first homerun as well. Joey went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a walk on
Saturday's Chill win. AirTran Airlines, official airlines of St. Ambrose
University Athletics, estimated travel distance was 399 feet.
Martin and Raisbeck continue to shine in Arizona League.
Joey Martin and Casey Raisbeck both had big weekends for their new Chill team.
Casey went 4 for 10 and RBI and Joey went 4 for 11 3 RBI and a booming triple to
the left-center field wall.
Both Joey and Casey continue to shine and show their leather skills, or in
Joey's case, human flesh. Joey made three great bare handed plays in
Saturday's ball game. Two of them were plays to end the inning and keep
the game tied. While, Casey ran down a couple balls in the gap. The
Chill are now 6-1 and will be back in action Tuesday Feb. 10, 2009 @ 4:00 pm
MTZ.

Joey Martin continues to swing a hot bat for the Chill. Joey started the
evening off in the first inning with a RBI double into his favorite store, the
GAP and finished the game going 2 for 2 with a walk. Casey Raisbeck went 0
for 2 with a walk, but continues to hit the ball hard. "I have to keep
working hard and stay positive, the ball will start to fall in for hits."
said Casey Raisbeck. The Chill are now 4-0 and will play again today at
4:00 pm MTZ.
Martin helps Chill to 3-0 record.
Joey Martin went 1 for 4 and a run scored in the Chill's 8-7 victory Wednesday
afternoon. Casey Raisbeck went 0 for 3, but helped out defensively in the
field with two great catches. Both will be back in action today at 4 pm
MTZ.

Joey Martin went 2 for 4 with two RBI's and Casey Raisbeck went 1 for 2 to help keep
the Palm Spring Chill team undefeated at 2-0 in the Arizona Winter Instructional
league. "Joey and I are just out here playing baseball for the love of it
and hopefully it will become a job for us." said Casey Raisbeck. "We
have a pretty good team and I just hope Casey and I can help this team win and
make ourselves stand out to the scouts for something in the future." said
Joey Martin. We both would also like to thank all of our family, friends

St. Ambrose Athletic Director Ray Shovlain announced today members of
the Fall 2008 Athletic Director Honor Roll. To be eligible for the award,
student-athletes must have had a minimum 3.0 grade-point average in the fall

Casey Raisbeck was drafted as a third round sandwich pick and Joey Martin was a
fifth round selection to the Palm Springs Chill team in the Arizona Winter
Instructional League draft, Thursday January 29, 2009.
Casey went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Joey Martin went 1for 2 on two hard hit balls
in a 7-1Chill victory. The former Bees will be back in action Tuesday Feb.

The Bees will travel to Clearwater, FL. on March 9-10, 2009 to play in the

Bees Announce Spring Break Dates.
The Bees will be defending there 2008 Warner Southern University Invitational
title March 5-7, 2009. "This invitational tournament in central Florida
will test our team early and help us prepare for our conference play." said new
pitching coach Jason Belk. This Warner Southern Invitational has been a
true NAIA Pre-Season Showcase for the NAIA National Tournament.
The entire trip will run from March 4, 2009 to March 11, 2009 with the 4th and
11th being travel days. The team will be staying in Haines City, Florida
and flying out of the Moline International Airport. Times and dates will
be posted as soon as they are made available.
St. Anthony's Thanksgiving Baskets
The Baseball team will be helping put together and delivering Hundreds of
Thanksgiving Baskets to those who have less for the upcoming holiday on this
Saturday November 22, 2008. "It is just another way that we as a team can
give back to our SAU community and hopefully put a warm smile on some ones
face this holiday season." said outfielder Eric Roberts.
Fall Black and Blue World Series.
Due to the cold weather and field conditions, Game one will be postponed and
played on Tuesday October 28, 2008 at 3:15 pm. Game two will be played
Wednesday Oct. 29 and a game three will be played on Thursday Oct. 30. (if
necessary) Game times will be at 3:15 pm
Service Project to Cedar Rapids, IA. Opens Eyes.
The Baseball team went to Cedar Rapids, IA on Saturday October 25, 2008 with
John Deere Inc. and United Way to help in the Flood Relief Program that is still
much in the way and minds of many in Iowa. The team helped in the gutting
and cleaning of several homes in desperate need of attention. "Our team of
student-athletes took a day off from practice and personal time to dedicate
themselves to helping others, while working together as a team," said Head
Baseball Coach Jim Callahan.
"What an eye-opener it was for myself and I know the others on the team as
well," said Junior Dave Norkus. "For us to come and be able help
others in need, is just a great feeling for our team and myself.
"I really believe that helping others and doing this as a team, can only relay a
message that we are all in this together and that sometimes we all should take a
step back to really see how truly grateful and blessed we are on an everyday
basis." said Coach Jason Belk.
Brett Newsome has decided to skip his senior season and signed as a
free-agent with the Washington Nationals organization on Tuesday. Brett
reports to the Nationals rookie ball club on Sunday. "This is a dream come
true for me and I want to think everyone at St. Ambrose University that helped
me feel at home and allowed me to be successful both in the classroom and on the
field."

Post-Season Honors Announced
Daniel Cutler and Brett Newsome were announced to the NAIA Honorable
Mention All-American Team. Both Daniel and Brett were Pitcher and Player
of the Year in the MCC. While, Daniel Cutler was also named Regional
Pitcher of the Year.
Brunson Grothus, Ben Irmen, Kyle Matkaitis, Kyle Merten, and Kyle Roesler
were named to the NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes Team. The Bees 2008
season Team GPA was a 3.29.
Brett Newsome, Joey Martin, Kyle Roesler, Casey Raisbeck, Mark Gaulden,
Daniel Cutler were all named to the Midwest Collegiate Conference Team and All
Region VII team. Justin Mottet was also selected to the MCC team.
Bees roll on in Region VII Tournament
The Fighting Bees, fresh off eliminating St. Francis on Thursday
night, played the role of eliminator Friday morning.
The Fighting Bees knocked off Iowa Wesleyan 8-5, and will now meet St. Xavier
in the regional championship. The Bees are coming out of the double-elimination
bracket and will need to beat the Cougars this afternoon and tomorrow morning to
win the regional title.
The Bees, defending regional champs, would then come back to Davenport to
play in the Super Regional next weekend.
Bees roll on in Region VII Tournament
The Fighting Bees will
take good hitting better late than never. St. Ambrose escaped an opening round
scare in the NAIA Region VII tournament in Joliet, beating Judson, 9-3.
The No. 2-seeded Bees trailed
3-1 after the first inning and the score stayed that way until Tyler Fletcher
doubled in a run and later scored in the sixth to tie it up. The next inning the
first five Bees that came to the plate scored. Fletcher ended the game 2-for-4
with a pair of doubles and a couple RBIs, and 9-hole hitter Sean Murphy was
2-for-3.
MCC Pitcher of the Year Danny Cutler pitched a complete game, getting out of
several tough spots, striking out eight batters along the way while only walking
two. Cutler threw more than 130 pitches to get the win, and never allowed a
runner past second after the fourth inning.
The Bees will play this
afternoon in the regional semifinal against St. Xavier. In the opening game of
the tournament, the No. 1 seed, St. Francis, fell to Iowa Wesleyan.
Joey Martin named MCC Player of the
Week.
Senior infielder Joey Martin was named MCC Player of the Week for his great
defensive plays and for swinging a hot stick. Joey went 10-19 with 10
RBI's, 10 run scored, 2 doubles and a 3-run homer and grand slam.
Bees win 19 straight conference games to claim the
title.
With the sweep over Grand View College, 2-0 and 19-10, the Bees captured the
MCC title for the second time in as many years. "Winning back-to-back
titles is a great high right now for our team right now, even more so for us
seniors. This is what we wanted to do all year long, and thank you to
everyone who has supported us." stated senior catcher Mark Gaulden.
Daniel Cutler collected the win in game one by throwing a 3-hit shutout.
While Klye Merten singled home the only RBI of the game. Brett Newsome
scored on a pass ball for the Bees first run.
In the night cap, Casey Raisbeck dropped a 382 ft. home run to get the Bees
on the scoreboard first. Grand View score six runs in the next three
innings to take a 6-4 lead. In the 7 run 6th inning, Tyler Fletcher's 501
ft. grand slam home run put the finishing touches on the title for the Bees.
"I just made a nice easy swing and made solid contact. I just want to help
the team out in anyway I can." Said Tyler Fletcher
The Bees won 19 straight conference games to claim the title with a 21-3
conference record and 31-10 overall on the 2008 season. This will give the
Bees the number two seed in next weeks Region VII Tournament to be held in
Joliet, IL. (More information will come at a later date.)
Bees set school-records with 31 runs and 8 homeruns.
In a scheduled nine inning conference game against Iowa Wesleyan University
on April 23, 2008, the Bees set two school records for most runs (31)and home
runs (8) in a single game.
Senior Joey Martin went 4-6 with a 3-run homer, grand slam and 7 rbi's on the
day. But junior Ben Irmen also had a great day at the plate, going 3-4
with a double, 389 ft. grand slam and 6 rbi's. "I really felt it in BP
today, that if I got the right pitch, that I am going to hit it out today." said
Ben Irmen on his first collegiate home run. "I want to give some credit to my
assistant coach Tony Huntley, for the great BP he throws to us each day to get
us ready."
Senior Kyle Roesler also had a very interesting day at the plate as well. Not
only did Kyle make all three outs in the 10 run first inning, he went 4-6 with 2
home runs and 5 rbi's. And to top off the night, Junior Brett Newsome hit
a 366 ft. catcher's interference home run.
The victory allowed the Bees to remain tied with William Penn for the
MCC lead. William Penn will play Grand View College on Friday for their
last conference game. While your Bees will travel to Clarke College both
Saturday and Sunday for a three game set and finish up conference play on next
Tuesday against Grand View College.
Daniel Cutler named MCC and Region VII Pitcher of the

Daniel Cutler went 2-0 with allowing 9 hits, 11 strikeouts, 4 walks and 0
runs in 15 innings of work on the week. A 6 inning win over Waldorf
College and a complete game shutout victory over Viterbo University earn him
both MCC and Regional Pitcher of the Week.
Nice weather does in the Bees against the Saints.
The Bees get swept by the 14th ranked University of St. Francis Saints, on
one the most beautiful days of this 2008 season. "The bats never came
alive today with that big clutch hit, pitching was ok and defense was fairly
good, but they were not all working together and that is what you need to win
ball games. said Sr. outfielder Casey Raisbeck.
Bees on roll after winning eight straight
In a double-header against Ashford University, the Fighting Bees took game
one from AU in five inning, 12-0. They did that thanks to a Joey Martin walk off
grand slam that went more than 400 feet.
Martin was 3-for-4 on the game with four RBIs, while Casey Raisbeck went
2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs as well.
In the second game, despite five errors and four runs in the top of the
seventh, the Fighting Bees still dispatched the Saints 10-5. Justin Mottet
picked up his 4th win of the season giving up no runs in his five innings of
work.
Brett Newsome went 3-for-4, with three doubles, two RBIs and four runs
scored. Raisbeck also had a pair of doubles on a windy afternoon and scored
twice. Kyle Roesler drove in four runs in the second game as well, although he
went 0-for-3.
SAU sweeps Iowa Wesleyan, up to 3rd in MCC
Even with moving the start time back twice, the Bees came out swinging in

Good pitching, good defense, timely hitting, a three-run homer and two, two
RBI doubles that leads to nine runs in the first two innings was just how
assistant coach Sean Johnson scripted.
Mark Gaulden hit a three-run homer in the first inning to get the Bees
buzzing in the dugout. "I knew he was going to throw me a fastball in and
I put a good swing on it and then had mother nature help it go with the wind."
Said starting catcher Mark Gaulden. Ben Irmen also had two hit three RBI
day, right along Brett Newsome's clutch two RBI base hit and Tyler Fletcher's
two RBI double. Daniel Cutler went six and a third innings to pick-up his
4th victory of the year. The Bees are 15-8 and 5-3 in the MCC
The Bees are taking one game at a time, right now in conference play.
"We need to play more, and become more consistent in our play here in the next
two weeks. said Head Coach Jim Callahan. "With the combination of colder
weather, Easter and our bye weekend, we just have not played enough baseball to
be consistent.
Bees game against Grand View has been Cancelled.
This is no April fools joke, today's game has been cancelled and no make-up
date has been announced as of yet. The Bees next game will be Thursday
April 3, 2008 on the road at St. Xavier University. Game one scheduled
start time is 1 pm with game two starting 20 - 30 minutes after game one.
Bees win 12-3 on Sunday to take conference series .
With a 12-3 victory this afternoon, the Bees win the MCC weekend series over
the Mustangs of Mt. Mercy College. This moves the B-0ees to 14-6 over-all
and 4-3 in conference.
The Bees next game is scheduled at home on Tuesday April 1, 2008
against MCC conference rival Grand View College. First pitch is scheduled
for 1:07 pm. The first 1000 people with valid id will receive a SAU
baseball pocket schedule.
Bees split with Mt. Mercy
Daniel Cutler threw a complete game, to pick up the 7-1 victory against the
Mustangs of Mt. Mercy College. But the Mustangs stole game two, by scoring
five runs with two outs in the top half of the seventh inning to earn a 5-3
victory and MCC conference split.
Bees pick up second conference win
Back to .500 in the conference (2-2) with a 12 run and 14 hit day
against Ashford University.
Bees out hit William Penn for first conference win
After dropping two conference games to William Penn on Holy Thursday, the
Bees out hit the Statesmen to salvage game three of the three game conference
set.
The Bees are now 11-5 over-all and 1-2 in the MCC. Next game will be
Wednesday March 26, 2008 against Ashford University in Clinton, IA. Game
time is set for 2 pm.
Bees sweep Lindenwood, ranked tops in Region VII
After a weekend sweep of the Lions, the Fighting Bees are ranked No. 1 in
NAIA Region VII.
The Bees had to travel to St. Louis to play the two games, but won
impressively in game one, 2-1, thanks to great pitching performances and two
timely hits.
MCC Player of the week
Brett Newsome was named this week's player of the week in the Midwest
Collegiate Conference. On the 9-game Florida trip, Newsome went 18-31 with 5
doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 20 RBIs. During the 8-day trip Newsome had a
hit in each game, including four game-tying or game-winning hits.
2008 Warner Southern Invite Tournament Champions
The Fighting Bees capped off a 9-game week with a 11-1, 5 inning victory over
Thomas University (GA) to capture the Warner Southern Invitational. Going
4-1 in the invitational with victories over #5 Spring Arbor, #11 Bellevue,
Walsh, Thomas, and its only loss coming to Bethel University (IN). The
Bees also beat Warner Southern two out of three and ten-run ruled Embry-Riddle
in Daytona Beach, FL. to finish the week 7-2 overall.

2008 Schedule has been posted.
The Fighting Bees will be playing one of the toughest schedules in the NAIA
in 2008. Ranked
21st in the preseason polls, the Bees will open the 2008 baseball season in February with a
four game set in St. Charles, MO. against 14th-ranked Lindenwood
University.
This 2008 Spring Trip to Orlando, FL. will begin a second test for the Bees
in the first week of March; Playing 10 games in 7 days against some of the
NAIA's top teams. The Fighting Bees will be playing Warner Southern
University, preseason ranked 28th, in a three game set to start the week.
They will then barnstorm over to Daytona Beach, FL. to play preseason ranked
15th Embry-Riddle in one nine-inning game. Wrapping up the week in
the Warner Southern University Invitational, the Fighting Bees will take on
national power and preseason ranked 4th Bellevue University and collide with
last years super-regional match-up, preseason ranked 3rd and 2007 National
Championship runner-up, Spring Arbor University. Other teams in the
tournament are 2007 World Series qualifier Walsh University, Thomas University
(GA), and Sienna Heights University (MI).
The Bees will also play Division I opponent Western Illinois University and
Regional opponents St. Xavier University and University of St. Francis as a part
of their non-conference schedule.
