Guests present: Paul Koch, Don Moeller, Rick Dienesch, Lew Sanborne, Dave O’Connell, Dan Bozik, Dan Zeimet.
Minutes of the November 27th meeting were read and approved. (Terry Schlabach moved, Pam Long seconded.)
Rick Dienesch explained that the proposed course is designed to provide those MBA students in need of business experience with an opportunity to apply and reinforce what they have learned in their academic program. Student interest initiated this request. The College would like to offer the course for a single credit hour per semester assignment, and 3 credits maximum per student initially. The number of fieldwork hours appropriate for the one credit have not been determined, but Rick Dienesch agreed to confer with Dan Zeimet and others, and to bring a proposed fieldwork requirement back to EPC. The College of Business will cooperate with the Career Development Center and with the International Student Coordinator in this effort to ensure that INS requirements are met.
Motion carried, with the
stipulation that the fieldwork requirement be specified.
Don Moeller explained the reasoning behind the proposed policy. North Central accreditation will not be a problem. Discussion followed about the implications of requiring transfers to complete the major requirements at SAU. The Deans Council included this provision because of difficulties matching some MIU majors with SAU majors. It was stressed that departments are encouraged to accommodate students with waivers whenever appropriate in order to assist them with this provision. It was agreed to modify the original motion to require enrollment no later than spring 2003 academic year, rather than the specific semesters of the original proposal.
Motion carried.
David O’Connell described the course to be offered for the first time this summer, as a special topics course providing a more in-depth treatment of the organizational culture literature.
Motion carried.
A concern was expressed that the excessive length of some program reviews was environmentally insensitive. Marge Legg asked the members to remind their colleagues to read the requirements for program reviews on the Provost’s web page and to include only those syllabi and supporting materials needed. Discussion followed about possible electronic alternatives. At the present time, the distribution of piles of paper will continue, but departments are asked to follow instructions so that trees can be saved.
The meeting was adjourned.
