1) Meeting called to order at 3:15.

2) Motion to approve minutes.
Passed with no corrections or additions.

3) COMM 110: Basic Human Communication. Moved by M Less, seconded by D Haubrich to approve course. R Wastyn and K Colwell presented course and how it relates to other introductory Communication courses. It is anticipated that two or three sections will be offered for the fall semester. Several questions were discussed related to testing out procedures and the
relationship between the course and University communications requirements. The Dept. will use Gen.Ed. guidelines rather than the contents of any specific course to build the exam.

Passed.

4) DBA 930: Special Topics: Human Resources. Moved by M Legg, seconded by K Eitrheim to approve course. M Forrett explained the rationale supporting the course, which focuses specifically on career issues, including retirement.

Passed.

5) DBA 990: Dissertation. Moved by M Legg, seconded by K Eitrheim to approve course. J McCaffrey explained the dissertation committee, content, time frame, proposal defense, and oral defense, all of which are described in the DBA student handbook. There was discussion about the dissertation proposal defense section, which has been revised since the original proposal to reduce the required doctoral committee from five members to a minimum of three. All changes were approved by the Doctoral Faculty Council.

Passed.

6) Review of Dept. of Languages and International Studies. Moved by M Legg, seconded by K Eitrheim to approve review. S Heisdorffer presented the rationale supporting changes in the majors. There was discussion about the appropriate number of credits for IS 103: International Experience. Credits are variable but will be determined by the content of the course, and
consistent for all degree-seeking students in the course. The possibility of offering instruction in different or additional languages was discussed. By friendly amendment, Greek 402 and Hebrew 402 were removed from the proposal and tabled due to numbering issues. Added as a prerequisite for German 311 and French 311 was "or permission of instructor." There was discussion and suggestions in regard to the assessment plan.

Passed with change in credit for IS 103, removal and tabling of Greek 402 and Hebrew 402, and amended prerequisite for German 311 and French 311.

7) Placement Testing. Moved by M Legg, seconded by D Haubrich to approve proposal from the Student Success Center staff and Director of General Education for changes in placement testing policies and procedures for a two-year period in order to conduct a study of alternative reading and math placements. R Legg explained the study, which coordinates with recent changes in University requirements.

Passed.

8) There was discussion as to if/when departments and programs should present internal changes to the EPC, and consensus that whenever possible, all significant educational policy changes should be presented to and approved by the committee prior to enactment.

9) Meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.

Respectfully submitted
C Herzig
