2)      Managerial Studies Program Review

a.       Bonnie Leonhardt presented the program review for the department of Managerial Studies. In her presentation, she noted several things:

                                                               i.      Managerial Studies

1.      MS is a relatively new department. This is its first program review. The faculty in the program found the review process useful.

2.      The department is pleased with their new vision and mission statement

3.      The department agreed that classes should be "rigorous and fun." They had several fruitful discussions about what this means and how it can be achieved.

4.      Business Horizons (BUS 050) has been dropped because it is no longer being offered by the provider, and because the University lacks the funds to continue the course.

5.      There was a brief discussion of the College of Business Advisory Group. This group consists of 35 persons who hold upper level positions in businesses throughout the Quad Cities. The group meets twice a year. The hope is that they would not only offer advice for strengthening the program, but also offer internship opportunities for SAU students. Participation rates at semiannual meetings is about half. The size of the group will soon be expanded to 45 members.

6.      At present the department does not offer any courses for general education credit.

                                                             ii.      Management

1.      Changed the name of major from "Management and Organizations" to "Management."

2.      Added a Management Minor to make the program more accessible to students outside the major and the College of Business. There was a brief discussion about the decision to require twelve hours instead of the usual fifteen. Leonhardt and Dienesch maintained that students could acquire the body of skills, knowledge, etc., necessary for the Minor in the twelve hours.

3.      Decided to be less prescriptive in degree requirements, and offer more options for students.

                                                            iii.      International Business

1.      Biggest changes. Originally built from courses already offered. Needed to offer more specialized courses. Several courses have been added to make the program more distinctive, most importantly INTL 377 (International Business Environment) and INTL 372 (Managing Across Cultures)

2.      Modification of International Field Experience requirements to make more flexible

b.      Motion to approve

c.       Richards

d.      Eitreim

e.       Approved

3)      Schlueter brought up concerns and questions about the financial aid policy which prohibits students who not in good financial standing from dropping courses, thus leaving them with an academic "F" for nonacademic reasons. After a brief discussion, it was suggested that the committee invite Ed Henkhaus to address the group on this matter. Schlabach agreed to arrange the invitation.

4)      Motion to adjourn

a.       Eitreim

b.      Wiese

c.       Approved
