The minutes of the 10/2/01 meeting were approved as distributed with the following changes: (G. Bereskin moved, C.Eitrheim seconded)

 

Under Motion to approve a revised curriculum for an International MBA to be offered in Shenyang, China  (Item #4): Replace “ The students will have TOEFL equivalent English-speaking ability before the program begins.” with  “The students will have English speaking ability before the program begins as demonstrated by a TOEFL or other measures.”

 

1.                  Motion to approve a request to postpone the program review of the three new departments in business until Spring, 2003. (G. Bereskin moved, C. Eitrheim seconded). 

 

Economics and Business Administration has been divided into three new departments: Managerial Studies, Economics and Finance, and Information and Decision Science.  They are requesting a one-year extension with concurrent review to establish a history that can be reviewed.   Motion approved.

 

2.                  Motion to approve the designation of three IS courses and three English courses as General Education, Group I, Humanities in the new curriculum.

The following International Studies courses be designated for general education credit in Group I, Humanities:

Intercultural Understanding IS 101

Foreign Cultural Experience IS 103

Selected Topics in Cultural and Civilization IS 210

 

The following English literature courses be designated for General Education credit as Group 1, Humanities:

            Popular Literature ENGL 242

            Literature of the Sacred ENGL 244

            Literature of Place ENGL 246

Motion approved.

 

3.                  Motion to adopt Guidelines for Interdisciplinary Minors effective with the 2003 curriculum.   (C. Eitrheim moved, P. Long seconded)

 

Rich Legg discussed that in some cases Interdisciplinary Minors do not meet at least nine hours of General Education designated course work.  The Proposal articulates required structural elements for new Interdisciplinary Minors, and describes an option where a student and advisor may design an individualized program of study leading to recognition of an Interdisciplinary Minor.  Motion approved.
