Minutes of  the October 16th, 2001 meeting were read and approved. (Michael Hustedde moved, Kris Eitrheim seconded)

Changes in curricular requirements for the DBA:

  1. A motion to add a new course in the DBA Program DBA925 Case Research in Management as a required course, and to drop two existing required courses DBA 920 Case Research in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources and DBA 921 Case Research in Strategic Management and Organization Theory effective immediately.  (Students taking 920 or 921, which will be phased out next year, have fulfilled this requirement.)
  2. Students are required to complete 4 elective courses from the 8 DBA elective courses: 930,931,940,941,950,951,960,961. (Bonnie Leonhardt moved, Pam Long seconded)

Monica Forret, D.B.A. Program Coordinator explained that there was duplication of material between the two case study courses; roughly 50% of each course concerned case study method, and the remainder focused on applications to either Strategic Management or to Organizational Behavior and Human Resources. Also, the existence of two case study courses overweighted case study as a research method in the program.  The proposed new course would cover applications in all three disciplines.  In place of the second required course, students would be able to choose a fourth elective special topics class.

Discussion followed about the implications of the changes for accreditation and for class size. Beginning the new policy immediately will allow students currently taking either of the former required courses to have satisfied their case study requirement.

Motion was approved.

Meeting was adjourned (Greg Bereskin moved, Kris Eitrheim seconded).
