The meeting of the St. Ambrose Educational Policies Committee was called to order at 3:15 PM by Terry Schlabach, Chair.  Present were:

1.  The minutes from the November 7, 2000 meeting were approved.
Moved Bereskin, second M. Legg.

2.  Motion to approve two courses in the WMST minor to be offered this spring:  SOC 310 - The Family and HIST 115/315 - US Women's History.  Moved Less, second M. Legg.  Passed.

3.  Motion by Bereskin, second Moeller to approve delay of program review for Language and International Studies.  Denied.

4.  Motion by Moeller, second Haubrich to approve name change for SSCI 213 to ASRS 213 - Applied Statistical Reasoning for the Sciences. After discussion a friendly amendment was made by Haubrich, approved by Moeller to use the prefix STAT instead of ASRS.  Amendment passed.  Motion passed. The Psychology Department will review the course in their Five- Year Plan in consultation with Sociology, Psychology, and Biology Departments.

5.  Motion by Haubrich, second by M. Legg to approve the following:  a.
course number change for MUS 113 to MUS 313 - Stamvoja (vocal jass
ensemble), b. offer MUS 103 - Applied Music for variable credit (1 or 2) rather than 1 credit, c.  add the new course MUS 099 - Concert Attendance for 1 credit.  Passed.

6. Information only, did not require vote - Structure recommendation to return Criminal Justice, Political Science and Sociology to independent departments.

7.  Motion by Eitrheim, second Bereskin to approve two new courses:  ECON 323 - Public Finance and ECON 327 - Industrial Organization.  Passed.

8.  Motion by Eitrheim, second by M. Legg to approve adding one credit to each of the following methods courses in the Early Childhood Education Major:  ECE 350 - Math Education for Young Children, 4 credits, ECE 306 - Science and Social Studies for Young Children, 5 credits.  In addition content from EDUC 312 would be embedded in ECE 306 with a name change to read Science and Social Studies Methods/Curriculum for Young Children. EDUC 312 would be phased out as a requirement.  Passed.

9.  Motion by Moeller, second by Haubrich to approve a new Masters of Education - Educational Leadership, a cooperative venture with the Diocese. The program is designed to meet the needs of the Diocese and public schools relative to the future leadership of elementary and secondary schools.  The performance-based program with an exit exam will emphasize on-campus summer residencies, distance education, field-based practical applications of standards and competencies, and provide a mentoring component. Passed. The Educational Leadership M.Ed will be reviewed with other master's programs by the Education Department.

10. Motion by Moeller, second Bereskin to approve program and curriculum changes to the Occupational Therapy Master's Program.  These changes are consistent with new accreditation standards and program assessments required at the graduate level.  Discussion followed to clarify prerequisites and curriculum requirements.  D. Zeimet suggested that when the OT Department markets this major, information should be added that would strongly suggest high school students take advantage of AP coursework and CLEP opportunities. Passed.  The HS courses will be included in the program review of the MOT Dept.

11. Motion by Less, second Eitrheim to approve a Master of Science in Information Technology Management. This program will be multi-disciplinary infusing technology, theory, management of technology along with business coursework.  The department agreed to make the longer course discriptions more succinct. This program will be reviewed in four years by the Computer and Information Sciences Department. Passed.

12.  EPC adjourned at 4:50 PM, motion Moeller, second Less. Passed.
