>Motion to accept the Physics Dept. revision of the Teacher Ed. Major
and
Minor:
>
>Dr. Worthey explained the rationale for the change. There was discussion
>regarding the difference between the major and the minor, and regarding
>what should be expected of a graduating teaching major.
>
>By friendly amendment, the proposal was revised. The new wording proposed
>the creation of a General Science Teaching Major with a Concentration
in
>Physics. This major/concentration will combine the requirements of
the
>General Science Major and Physics Teaching Minor, with the addition
of
>WI-PHYS 317, and will be cross-referenced in the new catalog.
>
>Motion passed.

>
>Discussion of the role of the Ed. Policy Committee:
>
>As per the Faculty Handbook (II.2.2.5) and as its name suggests, the
>committee addresses issues that actually affect educational policy.
As
>such, matters that do not significantly do so (e.g., numbering issues
not
>calling for a change of or exception to curricular policy) need not
be
>submitted to the committee.
>
>>Motion to adjourn. Passed.
>
>Next meeting will be scheduled for January 30.
>
>
>Respectfully submitted, Carl Herzig.
