Faculty Assembly Meeting 9/14/06

  1. Meeting called to order by Jim VanSpeybroeck at 3:05 p.m.  29 faculty members present

 

  1. Sr. Rita Cameron led those assembled in prayer.

There will be a memorial mass for Fr. Ed. Botkin this afternoon at 4:30.

 

  1. Minutes from 4/20/06, edited by Jim VanSpeybroeck were approved (Motion: C. DeVolder, 2nd B. Jacobson)

 

  1. Minutes from the 9/07/06 Faculty Assembly Special Meeting will be presented for approval at the next Special Meeting on 9/21/06.

 

  1. Last spring, the Administrator Evaluation Committee presented the statistical results from the Administrator evaluations to the three administrators who were evaluated.  The written comments were not given to the individuals.  The issue of whether to pass on the handwritten comments or not will be discussed further by the members of the committee with a decision to be reported back to the members of the faculty assembly.  Those committee members include: James VanSpeybroeck, Mara Adams, Gene Bechen, Paul Koch, Phyllis Wenthe, and Savvas Georgiades.

 

  1. The second reading of the Faculty Handbook Section 3 was brought to the floor. (Motion: A. Preston, 2nd T. Schlabach).  Brenda DuBois expressed concern over the removal of the line in the section on our Catholicity which referred to action which might cause “damage to the university.”  Its removal came during the word-smithing stage of the section by the handbook committee members.  No members of the committee attending the meeting could shed further light on the change.  The motion to approve Section 3 passed 25 aye, 0 nay, 2 abstain

 

  1. James VanSpeybroeck asked the members present to consider the advantages of moving future faculty assembly meetings to a room in the Rogalski Center.  The issue will be discussed at great length at a future assembly meeting.
