Discussion of 2nd PTS Proposal 3.3.1.1

 

-         Motion to accept the proposal was put forward by Paul Koch.  It was seconded by Randy Richards

-         P. Koch discussed concerns about qualified circumstances

-         A. Aji discussed concerns about 6 year finishing time for the terminal degree if hired without a degree, and would this result in the postponing of tenure?  What would be acceptable reasons?

-         A. Swift discussed concerns that this proposal was unnecessary

-         B. Hixon commented that this proposal was for:

o       The protection of candidates

o       Put this concept into written terms

-         The question was called by A. Swift and seconded by R. Richards, and accepted by a voice vote.

-         The faculty assembly voted no on the motion by a voice vote

 

 

Discussion of the Faculty Job Description

-         Presented by Anne Preston

-         Described the language was taken from the faculty handbook

-         T. Burns discussed concerns about the concept of credits hours versus contact hours

-         A. Swift discussed concerns involving the numbers in the job description.  He suggested that numbers could be removed as they may change as the institution changes.  He suggested using terms such as “normal” and “average” to remove specific language from the description

-         L. Sanborn discussed concerns involving no mention of teaching in the job description

-         A. Axup commented that the information in the job description is discussed in the faculty contract signed each year

-         B. Pitz discussed concerns involving the term “mandatory” in several instances

-         B. Hixon asked why the job description is being produced

-         M. Adams commented that the President Joan is interested in having the document

-         B Hixon commented that the faculty handbook would supersede the job description

-         It was decided that comments involving revisions to the description should be sent to Mara Adams
