Minutes of April Faculty
Assembly
- Meeting
called to order by Dr. Regina Stephens, Chair of the faculty assembly.
Minutes of March meeting and special meeting on March 30thth
approved by unanimous consent.
- Faculty
committee reports presented to the assembly for discussion and approval.
No discussion. Motion to accept reports by Paul Koch and 2nd by
Rachael Serianz. Reports approved by unanimous consent.
- Replacements
for two vacancies on faculty committees who were unable to serve/complete
designated terms Dr. Michael Putoff agreed to replace Barb Muenster on the
Center of Teaching Advisory Board. Motion by
Bea Jacobson and 2nd by Judy Kaiser. Approved by unanimous
consent. Motion by Warter Kurth and Brian Miclot to approve Bill Lynn as
replacement for vacancy on the Faculty Finance Committee. Approved by
unanimous consent.
- Discussion
on wording in the Faculty Handbook on catholicity, Church teachings, and
academic freedom. Fr. Bud Grant seemed to sum up the discussion the best
when he stated (paraphrasing) “Catholic faculty have the most to worry
about as they should know and understand the consequences of violations of
Catholic teachings, doctrines, and morals. Whereas, non-catholic faculty
likely have the most freedom to say whatever they want, as non-Catholics
are going to hell anyway.” After much discussion, Brenda DuBois moved to
delete “classroom and public circumstances” and insert “acting as an
institutional representative. 2nd by Ken Grenier. Motion
passed. Fr. Joe DeFranciso moved to delete :teaching authority” and insert
“doctrines and morals.” Motion 2nd by Fr. Bud Grant. Motion passed. These
changes made to 3.4.6.4 require a second reading in the September 06
faculty assembly.
- Sexual
harassment policy update. Information requested by SAU-HR representatives.
Report tabled as individuals requested for this meeting did not attend.
- Nancy
Hayes provided update on efforts to review and revise the SAU policy and
process on plagiarism.
- Motion
by Rachael Serianz to officially thank Regina Stephens for her service as
Chair of the Faculty Assembly and seconded by Bill Parsons.
- Chair
Stephens announced the results for 07-08 faculty chair elect. Mara Adams was elected. SHE WON!
- Motion
to adjourn by Jim Van Speybroeck and 2nd by Bill Parsons.
Meeting adjourned by unanimous consent.
