Minutes from the October (8th) meeting of the
Faculty Assembly

Meeting called to order at 3:05pm
by Dr. Regina Stephens, Chair
2.
Opening prayer given by Fr. Chuck
Adam in support of Earthquake victims (Last month it was the hurricane, so are
we developing a theme? What will next month’s disaster be?)
3.
President Rogalski provided an
overview of the search process for the next University President.
4.
Confirmation vote for Savvas
Georgiades to serve on the student life committee for the Fall Semester while
Brian Miclot is on sabbatical. Motion to confirm by Jim Van Speybroeck and
2nd by George Bailey, motion passed.
5.
Confirmation vote for Mike Opar to
replace Bonnie Leonhardt on IRB for a period of 2-years. Motion to confirm by
Jon Stauff and 2nd by Bea Jacobson, motion passed.
6.
Jon Stauff (faculty handbook
committee) provided information and review of latest changes and updates on the
constitution of the faculty assembly. Several changes in wording were discussed.
Questions arose regarding what constitutes a quorum in the context of a broader
discussion of the value and role of the faculty assembly.
7.
Discussion on simple changes in the
language of the faculty assembly constitution. Motion to fix a number for a
quorum was defeated by voice vote. A number of simple corrections (such as typos
and word usage) to the constitution were noted and corrected. Members present
approved these simple changes by voice vote.
8.
Recognition of Ron Wastyn to
fill-in for Phil Hall (sabbatical) on PTS committee.
9.
An entertaining report delivered by
Bud Grant on the state of general education.
10.
