Faculty Assembly Minutes – November Meeting
1. Meeting called to order by Dr. Regina Stephens, Chair. Motion to approve October minutes by Rachael Serianz and seconded by Sandy Cassidy. Minutes approved by voice vote.
2. Point of clarification. Discussion on changes to faculty handbook presented by Jon Stauff during the October Assembly meeting constituted the first reading of those changes. Those present at the November assembly meeting asked to retroactively recognize the October comments as the first reading. Motion to accept October discussion as the first reading by Neil MacNaughton and seconded by Carol DeVolder. Motion passed by voice vote.
3. Katie Trujillo (substituting for Jon Stauff) discussed with the Assembly the sections of the handbook changes first read at the October assembly. this constitutes the second reading of the changes first presented in October. Motion to consider by Tom Burns and seconded by Carol DeVolder. Motion passed by voice vote.
4. Additional changes to handbook presented by Katie Trujillo including grammar and typos in section 2.6.7 of the faculty handbook. Specifically, the wording to be amended to “the chairperson is responsible for” – This constituted a first reading. Motion by Rachael Serianz and seconded by Kirk Kelly. Discussion included changes to department chairpersons serving 2 or more consecutive terms, the rotation of chairs, and the role of chairs and how these issues should be stated in section 2.6.4 of the faculty handbook was discussed. Wordsmithing ensued regarding the changes. Motion by Tom Burns and seconded by Rachael Serianz to grant faculty handbook committee the authority to correct grammatical errors and edit for typos so that these sorts of changes do not have to be voted line-for-line by the faculty assembly. Passed by a thunderous voice vote in favor of the motion.
5. Motion to adjourn by Katie VanBlair and seconded by Kathy Leon. Meeting adjourned by voice vote.
