Minutes for the Meeting of the Faculty Assembly

November 8, 2001

1.    The meeting was called to order at 3:10 by J. Stauff; a prayer was offered by Fr. B. Grant.

2.    J. Stauff called for a motion to approve the minutes from the October meeting (minus the spelling and typographical errors). The motion was made by B. Jacobsen, seconded by K. Colwell and carried by the faculty.

3.    D. Osberger and R. Wastyn provided an interim report on the financial status of SAU.  D. Osberger gave a brief overview of the income and operating statements, including a discussion of capacity issues and their impact. A question and answer period followed. R. Wastyn then discussed the retirement incentive proposals, a committee request for a 4.5% pay increase (2.6% COLA and 1.9 % increase), and noted that an examination of the benefits package was slated for upcoming discussion.

4.    In new business, J. Stauff yet again begged for volunteers to serve on the United Way committee, noting that it is a “really fun thing to do.” Seriously, Jon is looking for someone who might serve in a year-round capacity, so if you are interested in serving on the committee and working with an interesting group of people, contact Jon.

Attention was directed to the upcoming Veterans’ Day parade, and an invitation to walk in the parade was issued to all members of the SAU community. Interested persons should contact L. Kilfoy or meet at the Scott County Courthouse at 10:30 a.m. (prior to the parade).

It also was noted that the Presidential Assembly for the spring semester will be held on Monday, January 21 (Martin Luther King Day). The topic is Catholic Identity. For more information, contact C. Winter.

      K. Colwell noted the upcoming AAUP meeting.

D. Hilden noted that Admissions won the Halloween costume challenge issued by the Nursing Department.

As there was no additional new business, J. Stauff called for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by T. Burns and seconded by W. Oberle. The motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 4:50.
