1) The minutes from the September 26, 2000, meeting were approved with the corrected date.
2) Numbering system update: According to information received from Ann Freeberg, the numbering system update is now in the hands of the Graduate Council and we will update you  about pending changes
3) Admission Requirements for MCJ Program: It is proposed that current admissions criteria, as published in the SAU catalog, continue to be used. It is anticipated that a minimum GPA re-quirement will be added in the future, following collection of further data.  Moved by Herzig; second by Haubrich.  Motion approved.
4) Update on Environmental Management Program: Chair Terry Schlabach read a memo from Don Moeller indicating the Environmental Management major will be phased out as only one major has declared as a major in the two  years since its inception.  No action on this was required by the committee.
5) Motion to accept ECON 399 (Special Topics) as new course: C Lee, Chair of Economics and Finance described how this new course would be handled and the benefits it would provide students.  It is viewed as needed to meet specialized student needs and allow professors to draw students into their specialty areas as is already done in the Business Department.  It is anticipated the course will be offered as both professor and student needs require.  Moved Bereskin; second Less.  Approved.
6) Proposed changes to Sociology course names: Members of the Sociology department proposed renaming three courses (SOC 310 The Family to Marriage and the Family; SOC 325 Social Movements to Collective Behavior and Social Movements; SOC 341 Social Inequity to Stratification and Social Inequality).  The proposed changes indicate the department's attempt to
make itself more reflective of similar programs throughout the country. The name changes are proposed after extensive research into how other departments identify similar courses.  Moved Less; second Eitrheim.  Approved.
7) Proposal by Sociology department to eliminate Concentrations: It was proposed by members of the Sociology department that Concentrations (historically focused on areas associated with Social Work) be eliminated as the historical precedent for these no longer existed and their
elimination would allow the department to focus its attempts on exposing its students to more traditional Sociology courses germane to the discipline itself and those students wishing to procure graduate degrees in the field.  Moved Eitrheim; second Bereskin.  Approved.
8) Addition of courses to the Women's Studies Minor: B Jacobson requested that two existing courses (ENGL 360 Advanced Topic: Early Women Travel Writers; PHIL 390 Special Topics: Philosophy of Feminism) be approved to fulfill credit hours toward the Women's Studies minor.  Moved Shockey; second Haubrich.  Approved.
9) New course proposal by PED: Members of PED asked for approval to add WI-HED 240 (Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition) to their course offerings. This course is intended to primarily meet the needs of Elementary Education Majors.  Discussion focused around its designation as a 2 credit hour course although it will be offered as Writing Intensive.  Moved by
Herzig; second by Bereskin to approve.  Following the discussion a Friendly Amendment was made by Shockey to accept the course as a 3 credit hour class. Approved
10) New course proposals by PED: Members of PED asked for approval to add three new courses (PED 292 Clinical Athletic Training I; PED 492 Clinical Training III; PED 338 Therapeutic Modalities).  D West explained that PED 292 and PED 492 would expand already existing semester offerings to two semester courses in order to add a needed academic component to the
required course load.  Moved Shockey; second Bereskin.  Friendly amendment by Bereskin to add letter designations to indicate semester of offering (a= Fall; b= Spring).  Approved.
11) New course proposal by PED: Proposal made to offer PED 211 (Ballet) as the department now has the facilities for such a course and the course is seen as "basic" to subsequent courses the PED major will take.  It also allows for another General Education offering in the department.  Moved Shockey; second Haubrich.  Approved.
12) New course proposals by MPT: Members of the MPT department requested approval for new course offerings that would allow for a revised delivery of required material.  Proposed new courses include: MPT 520 Human Pathology and Medical Management I; MPT 590 Pharmacology in Rehabilitation; MPT 635 Health Promotion and Prevention; MPT 640 Cardiopulmonary
Therapeutics; MPT 650 Issues in Research I; MPT 700 Issues in Research II. Moved Less; second Bereskin.  Approved
13) Next meeting is to be held November 7, 2000.
14) Moved Bereskin; second Eitrheim to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 4:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
