Fall 1999  First-year Student Survey

In Fall 1999, all first-year SAU students enrolled in New Student Seminar 101 (n = 209 students) were surveyed to gain their self-impressions regarding participation in classroom and non-classroom activities. The survey's administration was part of a larger project designed to examine the Learning Community experience at SAU. All respondents were asked survey questions organized into several groups: 1) Course Activities, 2) Library Activities, 3) Interactions with Faculty, 4) Interactions with Student Acquaintances, 5) Writing Activities, and 6) Fine Arts Activities.  Students also were asked to respond to a series of questions designed to elicit their self-evaluation in a variety of areas related to the goals and objectives of general education.  Additionally, students responded to questions about campus climate and, if Learning Community participants, to questions about their perceptions of that experience.  These last two areas will not be reported here.
