* Guidelines for acceptable field hours to gain admission to Ed 207:
Future teachers begin their educational experience at St. Ambrose in either Educ 205 Field Experience or Educ 207 Orientation to Teaching. Educ 205 is required for those students who can not document supervised contact with PK – 12 students. Educ 207 is open to those students who can document at least 70 hours of supervised contact with PK – 12 students with at least 55 of those hours completed in the classroom. These are hours completed after high school and done under the supervision of a licensed professional. Hours that count toward the required 70 in Educ 207 are:
1. Completed under the supervision of a licensed teacher or completed by a prospective Ambrose student holding an educational license such as a substitute teacher.
2. Completed within the five years of the semester enrolled in 207.
3. Completed during the normal school day. Hours completed in before or after school programs are not acceptable except for # 4 below.
4. Completed in the classroom except that up to 15 of the 70 hours may be completed outside the classroom in related activities such as chaperoning dances, selling tickets to school plays, assisting coach, attending parent/teacher conferences, attending open houses, attending PTA or PTO meetings, attending school board meetings, interviewing administrators or teachers, etc.
NOTE:
Occasionally, students satisfactorily complete Educ 205 Field Experience and voluntarily decide not to apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program. At a later date, they change their mind and seek admission to the Teacher Education Program. As long as item # 2 above is met, these students may enroll in Educ 207 Orientation to Teaching. If students do not initially meet all requirements for Educ 205 yet choose to seek admission in a later semester, they must re-enroll in Educ 205.
** Syllabi, assignments, and Danielson components are available through Blackboard for student currently enrolled in these courses.
