GROUP PROJECT 2
A DEBATE
Worth 50 points
This project involves constructing a debate over a controversial health issue. This will involve quite a bit of role playing. One member of your group will explore the Pro side of an issue while another member explores the Con side of the same issue. The third person will act as a facilitator and pose questions to each of the “authorities.” After the debate, the class will vote on who they believe gave the most compelling argument, and a small prize will be awarded to the winner.
Opposing view points for several topics are described in a book called, Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in Health and Society, by Eileen Daniel. This book may be used as a primary source of information, but you are still expected to have at least two other sources. These sources must be cited on a detailed outline which needs to be turned in on the day of your class presentation. You are not required to have any visual aids, but depending on your topic, it may be necessary to use a visual aid to convey information. The debate must be 15-20 minutes in length.
