Resident Assistant (RA) Selection

Would you like to be an RA? Do you think you have what it takes?

The Residence Life Department needs qualified, responsible, energetic students to be leaders in the residence halls for the 2009-10 academic year. Being an RA comes with many benefits along with a lot of responsibility, and only the best-qualified candidates are chosen. Resident Advisors are peer advisors trained to assist students with academic, personal or behavioral problems. RAs are students selected because of experience, leadership ability and interest in others. They help residents grow socially and academically by maintaining a close relationship with each student and by fostering an effective living-learning environment.

We currently anticipate hiring for the following positions for Spring 2010:

In order to be eligible for the RA position:

  • You have at least one semester of experience as a full-time student at St. Ambrose or another institution.
  • Your cumulative GPA is at a 2.5 or higher.

Things to consider:

  • The job responsibilities: Take some time to review the 2009-2010 RA Contract and Confidentiality Statement to gain an understanding of what the position entails.
  • Talking with a current RA: Talking with a peer who has experience as an RA will give you an idea of what being an RA is all about.
  • Compensation: RAs receive their on-campus housing free of charge, and are paid a $100 stipend over a 10 month period for each month of employment.
  • RA Training will be held in January, beginning around the 13th, and is a full day's time commitment. Presence at training is required of the position. More details will be given to those selected.
