Terms and Conditions for the 2009–10 Residence Hall Contract Please read and understand all of the terms of this contract prior to completion. This contract highlights some, but not all, of the policies regarding living in the residence halls. All students will be expected to abide by all of the policies outlined in the St. Ambrose University Student Handbook and the St. Ambrose University Catalog. Room Assignments: Assignments are made by date contract and deposit is received. If you checked roommate preference, housing assignment cannot be processed until contracts for both roommates are received; therefore, assignment is dependent upon the date and time of the last roommate contract received. Room assignments are not guaranteed. Room Consolidation: Students in double rooms without roommates will be asked to consolidate with other students also without roommates. If space is available, these students may be offered the option of keeping their room as a single at the single room rate. Significant Dates: Students are expected to leave campus within 24 hours of completion of their last exam during finals week. The residence halls are closed during winter break (i.e. The winter break period is not covered by this contract). Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 residence halls open for new students at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 residence halls open for returning students at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 residence halls close at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 residence halls open at 12 noon Friday, May 14, 2010 residence halls close at 7 p.m. Room Contents: Each student room is furnished with a single bed, mattress, desk, chair, closet, bulletin board, dresser, and vanity. Basic cable and local telephone service is provided at no additional cost. Inexpensive long distance calling codes are available. All rooms have direct Internet access. Rooms in Cosgrove, Bechtel and Rohlman Halls are carpeted and share a common restroom between two rooms. Rooms in Davis Hall and Hayes Hall share a community restroom and shower facilities. Davis Hall rooms are carpeted. Damage or Vandalism: Resident students who damage property must pay for the cost of repairs and will be subject to further disciplinary action. Residents of a particular floor or building are responsible for the cost of repairs for any unclaimed common area damage. Quiet/Consideration Hours: Certain hours of the day have been designated “quiet hours”: Sunday through Thursday 10 p.m.–8 a.m. and Friday and Saturday midnight to 10 a.m. During finals week, 24-hour quiet hours are in effect beginning at 10 p.m. on the Friday prior to exams. During these hours sound equipment may be played only when the room door is closed and the volume may not be heard in public areas or another room. Visitation Hours: 7 a.m.–2 a.m. daily. Guests: After 7 p.m. each night, students will be required to register their guest(s) at the front desk of each traditional residence hall. Overnight guests of the same gender are allowed with prior approval. Guests must abide by all established policies at St. Ambrose University and are the responsibility of the host resident. Fire Hazards: The use of candles, other open flame devices, halogen lamps, space heaters, or open element electrical cooking units is prohibited. Tobacco-Free Policy: As of August 1, 2008, tobacco use will be prohibited on all University property. Alcohol: The State of Iowa prohibits anyone under the legal age (21) to possess or consume alcohol. No one is allowed to possess or consume alcohol in Bechtel, Cosgrove, Davis, Hayes and Rohlman Halls. Animals/Pets: No animals shall be permitted in any University residence (with the exception of fish in an aquarium). Room Entry: The University reserves the right to enter and/or inspect student rooms for the following reasons: a) required-maintenance and repairs; b) health and student safety matters; c) emergency procedures; d) suspicion of violation of University policies; and e) routine safety checks. Liability: The University assumes no liability for any loss or damage to the personal property of the resident and does not carry insurance on personal property. Each resident should determine if his or her personal property is covered by parents’/guardians’ homeowners’ policies and should purchase whatever property insurance is desired. University Policy: All students should read, understand, and comply with all University policies as stated in the St. Ambrose University Student Handbook and Catalog.
