  Martin Hansen, Ph.D.
    Davis 28
    (563) 333-6454
    DrMartinHansen@netins.net

Martin Hansen received his Ph.D. in sociology from Iowa State University in 1994 with emphases in "social organization" and "technology and social change."  He has since taught sociology and criminology at William Penn College, the University of Northern Iowa, Klagenfurt University in Austria, and has been at St. Ambrose University since Fall 1999.  Although he is first and foremost a sociology generalist, his primary interests are in sociological theory and the history and philosophy of science.  Along with his interests in theory and science come an interest in technology, work, social change, and international development.  The interests and experiences that led Martin to sociology are unique and eclectic.  He has a strong background in industrial technology, studied to be an industrial arts teacher, and spent several years working for John Deere Corporation.  He has also worked as an independent construction contractor, a professional musician, and as a design engineer and technician for his own computer company.  He has held seven visiting scholar appointments in Europe since 1994.  A recurring theme in his work is the exploration of how science, technology, and capitalism come together in various ways to contribute to the globalization of culture and society.
