Fighting Bees throw at Quad City's Celtic Highland Games

Although last track & field season is a distant memory and next year is a long way off, the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee throwers went old school this weekend.

The Quad City Celtic Highland Games gave five Fighting Bees the chance to compete in some unorthodox throwing events.

Senior captain Scott Cherryholmes along with juniors Mason Tangen, Nick Heuermann and Nick Steinbach joined freshman Chris Dubree to throw in the five events.

The athletes competed in the caber toss (where they throw a long pole roughly the size of a telephone pole end over end), the hammer toss, stone’s throw (similar to shot put), and weight throw for distance and height.

All of the throwers showed their skills and came close to breaking several records despite limited practice with the implements.
