Tony Sacco - Football
Inducted into Hall of Fame in 1986
Tony Sacco didn’t spend his entire college career with St. Ambrose, but
still ended up being a two-sport star for the Bees.
As a freshman quarterback in 1936, Sacco led St. Viator College to the Little
Nineteen Conference championship. Then, after transferring to St. Ambrose, he
led the 20-2 Bees to the Iowa Conference basketball title for the 1938-39 season
between two successful football seasons under coach Dukes Duford, 7-0-1 in 1938
and 6-1-1 in 1939.
Playing both offense and defense, he was all-conference, all state and Little
All-American in football in 1939 and then was voted to the Chicago Tribune
College All-Star team in 1940.
Sacco graduated in 1940.
