Athletic Hall of Fame

Penny D. Draper - Softball

Inducted into Hall of Fame in 1988

Penny Deep Draper spent a good portion of her St. Ambrose career on the diamond. When she wasn’t playing softball, she also played on the basketball and softball teams. In softball, she was a four-year starter for coach Moreland Fink. She led the team in every hitting category and was elected captain and MVP her Junior and Senior years.

Draper led St. Ambrose to its first State Softball Title in 1982, upsetting a strong UNI team. She was elected to the state All Tournament team as an outfielder. The team went on to finish second at the Mid-West Regional Tournament. She was selected for All Regional Honors after leading the tournament in hitting.

In her senior year, Draper was voted to the District 15 Softball Team and to the NAIA All American Softball Team. She was the first female athlete at St. Ambrose to be honored in this way. She was further honored when her number was retired at the Athletic Awards Presentation.

Draper graduated in 1983.
