Jim Van Quathem - Basketball
Inducted into Hall of Fame in 1992
Jim Van Quathem played four solid years of basketball at St. Ambrose from
1964 to 1968. During his time, the team had a record of 37-54 under head coaches
Bob Duax and Leo Kilfoy.
As a sophomore, Van Quathem was selected to the All Midlands Conference Team and
voted the team’s most improved player. As a senior, he was voted the team’s Most
Valuable Player in addition to being voted to the All Tournament Team at the St.
Ambrose Holiday Tournament.
Van Quathem has been described as an outstanding defensive player usually
assigned the opponents top scorer. He also averaged in double figures
offensively. He says he best remembers the basketball games against Loras, the
student union, and the small classes.
Van Quathem graduated in 1968 with a degree in accounting.
