St. Ambrose 2 Union County 1
Although the game was officially an exhibition game and will not count
on the Bees' schedule, it was played with the intensity and crispness of
any regular season games.
Dan Nichols took the hill and was dominant in his first outing of the
year. After striking out the side in the first, Nichols yielded only one
run in his five innings of work while his offensive mates were held
scoreless. Aaron Stetson came in for a perfect sixth and seventh, setting
the stage for Beau Merinangeli's game winning RBI single with one
out.
St. Ambrose 7 Mount Marty 3
After unofficially snapping a three-game losing streak in the
exhibition game, the Fighting Bees officially ended it against Mount Marty
on Tuesday.
After yielding a two spot to Mount Marty in the second, St. Ambrose
rallied in a big way in the third. The Fighting Bees used six consecutive
base hits to push seven runs across the plate in the inning. The big
inning would provide all the runs the Bees would need as Junior Brett
Hiner was dominant in his first start of the year. The lefty pitched six
innings, struck out six and gave up two earned runs.
