SAU's Roesler, Martin Named All-Conference

5/17/06
The Midwest Classic Conference announced their baseball all-conference teams Monday and two Bees were fortunate enough to make the squad. Third Baseman Kyle Roesler (St. Louis, Mo.) and Outfielder Ben Martin (Moline, Ill.) were selected to the team that was dominated by conference champion William Penn who had six selections, in addition to Mike Laird's coach of the year award.

Roesler was the spark plug in the middle of the Bee's order all season, starting in all 49 games, while batting .373 (57-for-153). Roesler led the team in doubles (22), RBI (37) and slugging percentage (.588). The sophomore also finished the season with three home runs, 28 runs scored, and a triple, as well as being tied for the team lead in total bases with 90.

Martin was selected to the MCC All-Conference team for the third consecutive year. Last season's Player of the Year also started all 49 games for the Bees. The senior batted .357 (55-for-154), while tying for the team-high of five home runs. Martin also added 24 RBI, while hitting 13 doubles and two triples. Martin finished the season with 87 total bases, while drawing a team-high 33 walks. Martin recorded a .565 slugging percentage this season.

SAU finished the year with a 26-23 record, going 14-13 in the Midwest Classic Conference, which was good enough for fifth place. The Bees struggled on the road, going 9-16 away from the friendly confines of John O'Donnell Stadium.  SAU finished with a 12-5 mark in games played at JOD.
