Mitch Wylie Goes to Mets posted: Dec. 27, 2005 St. Ambrose product Mitch Wylie has been playing professional baseball for five seasons. The 1998 eighth round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox is now headed to the big apple, as he was picked up by the New York Mets in the Rule Five draft from the San Francisco Giants. Wylie will be on the Mets' 25-man roster this season, where he will pitch out of the bullpen. This will be the third major league team of Wylie's career. He played last season on San Francisco's AAA team in Fresno, California. Wylie played at St. Ambrose from 1996-98, where he was a right-handed pitcher. The North Scott grad compiled a 15-8 record at SAU with 160 strikeouts and a 2.18 record in 140 innings. Wylie joins a Mets team that finished 83-79 last season, tied for third place in the NL East. They've revamped their team this season with a lot of key off-season acquisitions. Wylie is now competing for the Mets in the Latin American leagues.
