Bees Defense Stuffs WaldorfThe Bees got off to a slow start with a Jim DuPage interception to stall their first drive and a punt on their second possession. The third time was the charm for the Bees as they put together an impressive six play, 76-yard drive, capped off by a 19-yard Vernon Reed touchdown run. On the ensuing kickoff, Andy Bures forced a Waldorf fumble and recovered the ball at the Waldorf 12 yard-line. However, the Bees were stuffed on three consecutive runs and were kept out of the endzone. Evan Gutierrez connected on a 22 yard field goal to put the Bees up 10-0 early in the second period. The second quarter turned into an offensive struggle as both defenses tightened up. The Bees and Warriors offenses went three and out on the next five possessions. Following, an Aaron Kurowski punt to the Bees 18 yard line, SAU mounted a drive all the way to Waldorf's 35 before running out of time. The Bees held the Warriors on their first possession of the second half and took over with great field position when Kurowski only managed an 11 yard punt to the Waldorf 35. SAU struck immediately when DuPage hit tight end Tyler Driscoll for a 17 yard gain on the first play of the drive. Following a pair of runs be Reed and DeQuinn Watford, Du Page complete to Driscoll again to put the Bees at first and goal at the Waldorf 7. After two short gains, Reed took the ball from the one and went untouched into the end zone. Waldorf did manage to capitalize on one Bees miscue in the 4th quarter. DuPage pitched to Watford at the SAU 28, and the Bees running back mishandled the toss. Waldorf recovered the ball at the St. Ambrose 10 yard line and scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by Marcus Lewis. The Bees put the finishing touches on Waldorf with their best scoring drive of the afternoon to close out the game. DuPage and the offense took SAU on an 8 play, 81 yard drive. DuPage hit Tyler Driscoll for 23 yards and then connected with Vernon Reed for another 49 yards to put the Bees inside the Waldorf ten yard line. After a pair of rushes by Reed and Adam Norland, DuPage found Steve Parker all alone in the back of the endzone for the touchdown. The Bees were paced by DuPage's 253 yards of passing and one touchdown. Reed finished with 128 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also caught one pass for 49 yards for a game-high 177 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Andy Bures and Vince Filipp set the tone for the Bees. Bures had ten tackles, two for loss and a fumble recovery. Filipp had ten tackles, two for loss and a sack. The Bees, now 8-0, 6-0 in the MSFA, will host St. Francis (IL), on November 4th at Brady Street Stadium. |
