St. Ambrose Opener One of Best Games For Week 1

If there was any reason that fans were not excited for the Saint Ambrose football team's opening game at Loras College, there is now more reason to get energized for the 2004 opener.  Dannelly Media, an NAIA publication, has ranked St. Ambrose at Loras as number four in the top ten opening games for NAIA schools.

The two schools once played each other every season, in what was called the number one rivalry in the Midwest.  However, they have not faced each other since 1983 because of a bit of bad blood between the two programs.

Loras is an NCAA Division III team from Dubuque, IA.  They finished last season with a 7-3 mark with two losses coming against Division III playoff teams.  St. Ambrose is coming off a successful 2003 campaign in which they finished 8-4, with a trip to the second round of the NAIA playoffs, where they lost to St. Francis (IN).  The Fighting Bees are ranked number six in the nation to begin this season. 

Game time is at 1:00 on Saturday September 11 in Dubuque, Iowa.
