Fighting
Bees Fall to "Hot" Augie
When you shoot 54% (12-22) from beyond the arc and 50%
(30-60) from the field, you are bound to win and that is what Augustana
College (3-1) did Wednesday night. In front of a standing room only
crowd at Lee Lohman Arena, the Vikings came away with a 88-66
victory over the No. 19 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees (5-4).
The Fighting Bees came out of the gates ready to go.
After winning the tip, Karl Petersen posted up and Tom Pavljasevic found him
for the quick score. Petersen would also come away with a steal on the
defensive end of the court on Augustana's first possession of the
game. He then posted up again, this time only to miss the short
jumper.

Petersen lead the Fighting Bees, who shot 33% (21-63) from the
field and a dismal 20% (3-15) from beyond the arc. Petersen was the only Fighting Bee in double figures,
but managed to grab six boards.
The Fighting Bees would lead 11-10 on a Petersen jumper with
15:45 to go in the first half would be the last lead the Fighting Bees would
see.
The Vikings and Fighting Bees would battle for the
majority of the first half before Augie would go on a 10-0 run with 10:01
to go in the first half. A three pointer by Drew Carstens would put
the Vikings up 38-24 with 7:27 to go.
Carstens led the Vikings with 20 points on 6of 14
shooting, but was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Carstens also added
five rebounds.
The Fighting Bees trailed 50-35 at half after a Brett
Jacobs jumper with 00:10 to go in the first half. Jacobs finished
the night with six points as he battled foul trouble most of the
night.
The Fighting Bees battled to within 13 points of the
Vikings in the second half, but that would be as close as the could cut it
as the Vikings went on a 5-0 run led by a Jim Thomas three pointer.
Thomas finished with nine points, six assists and four
rebounds.
The Vikings got their biggest lead with 2:56 to go after
Brad Novak sank his second free throw to give the Vikings a 88-60
lead. Novak finished with 15 points. Also in double figures
for the Vikings was Shaun Clements who finished with 13 points and eight
rebounds. Bill Goehrke had a game high ten rebounds.
The Fighting Bees will take on NAIA Division I foe Olivet
Nazarene University Tigers at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday at Lee Lohman Arena
before taking two weeks off for finals.
