Fighting
Bees Drop Second Straight
The Concordia Bulldogs (4-1) had a solid defensive effort,
holding the No. 19 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees (4-3) to 41% shooting in a
70-58 Bulldogs victory. The Bulldogs had the shorter bench on Friday
night, using only eight players compared to the Fighting Bees using 11,
but managed to keep the Fighting Bees to 41% shooting.
Matt Fitzpatrick led the Fighting Bees with 21
points and four assists. The only other Fighting Bees player in double
figures was Tom Pavljasevic. Pavljasevic came away with 11 points and
four boards. Curtis Clark had a game high six rebounds while adding
five points.
The Fighting Bees trailed the Bulldogs 32-26 at halftime
and would fight to even gain a lead, but it was short lived as the
Bulldogs would go on a 6-0 run shortly after the Fighting Bees took a one
point edge.
Leading the Bulldogs were three players who all scored in
double figures. Rich Dietze was exactly 50% (10-20) from the field
in his 23 point effort. Dietze also grabbed a game high six
rebounds. Jared Calver added 12 points while Daryl Werner added ten
points and five boards.
The Fighting Bees will next move on to tomorrows game
versus the St. Xavier Cougars (7-1) at 3:00 p.m. to conclude the Pepsi
Challenge. The Bulldogs will face off against Mt. St. Clare College
at 1:00 p.m.
