Up Tempo Game Favors Bees
For the third time this season the Fighting Bees (12-11, 3-2) went over the century mark, as they defeated East-West University (5-15) 105-93. Five Fighting Bees scored in double figures in a fast paced, up and down game.
The Phantoms got out to a quick lead as they led the Bees 12-9 in the first 5 minutes of the game. St. Ambrose came right back at them with a 6-0 run of their own in the next 1:30 and never looked back. Matt Fitzpatrick led the Fighting Bees to a 52-37 halftime lead, scoring 12 points and added five assists.
The second half began where the first ended, as St. Ambrose bolted out to a 7-0 run to lead by 22. East-West tried to fight back over the next 15 minutes, but the Fighting Bees kept the pressure on by shooting 54% from the field and 82% from the line, in the second half. The game was put away with 3:55 remaining as Brett Jacobs got a steal and gave it up to Tom Pavljasevic who delivered an alley-oop pass back to Jacobs to put the Bees up 100-78.
Twelve Fighting Bees scored, as all 16 members saw action. Fitzpatrick led the way with 24 points and seven assists, Pavljasevic had 16 points and seven assists, Jacobs posted 15 points and nine rebounds, Ryan Johnson dropped in 13 points and Karl Petersen added 11.
The Phantoms were paced by three players, Jonathan Tate with 32 points, Nelson Maisonet added 24 and Carlos Gill threw up 20 points and 20 rebounds.
St. Ambrose out-shot the Phantoms 53% to 50% from the field, on a night when 152 total shots were attempted. The 105 points was the highest output from the Fighting Bees this season. The Fighting Bees host conference foe Mt. Mercy on Saturday at 3:00.
