Vikings Stun Fighting Bees in First Conference
Win
After
defeating two of the MCC's top teams consecutively, the St. Ambrose
Fighting Bees (15-13, 6-4) dropped a game to the last place Grand View
Vikings (3-22, 1-9) by the score of 70-61.
The
Fighting Bees are coming off a 70-62 win at Viterbo on Wednesday, to take
over first place. Prior to the Viterbo game, the Fighting Bees played
their best overall game of the season, as they dominated William Penn with
a 40 point victory.
The win
proved to be the first for the Vikings in conference play and first in the
last 14 games.
St.
Ambrose jumped out to a 28-26 halftime lead, but then struggled to get
anything going on the offensive end in the second half.
After
shooting only 36% in the first half, the Vikings shot 67% from the field
in the second half, including 4 of 6 from 3-point land.
The
Fighting Bees struggled throughout, as they shot 36% in the first and
second half. The Bees were hampered by 16% (4-25) shooting from the arc
and 62% (13-21) from the line. They were out-rebounded 38-23 by the
Vikings.
Karl
Petersen was the only bright spot for St. Ambrose, as he posted a
game-high 25 points and tallied 3 blocks to improve on his MCC lead.
Mike
Brinker led the Vikings in scoring with 19 points, while Brad Bach added
16. St.
Ambrose resumes play on Wednesday, with the back end of a two-game series
with non-conference foe East-West University. The Bees defeated East-West
in the first meeting of the year. The Bees continue conference play on
Saturday, as Iowa Wesleyan comes to Lee Lohman for Senior Day.
