Duo Clinches 13th Win for Fighting Bees
CHICAGO – The No. 8-ranked St. Ambrose Fighting Bees were looking to
go into their holiday break with a victory and they got it, winning the
consolation game of the Saint Xavier Holiday Tournament over Aquinas
College 80-71.
Davenport
Central graduate Karl Petersen and Davenport Assumption graduate Matt
Fitzpatrick combined to score 47 of those points guiding the Bees to their
13th win of the season.
Petersen
had a game high 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Fitzpatrick added 21 points and four assists.
Chad Tancil was the lone other Fighting Bee in double figures with
12.
The
duo also combined to connect on all 14 of their free throw attempts, the
majority coming in the games final minutes, sealing the victory.
The
Fighting Bees started the game with a 6-0 run, but trailed 31-30 at
halftime. Then the floodgates
opened up to start the second half.
The
Bees used a 13-0 run to build their lead to 12 and never looked back.
The closest that the Saints got the rest of the way was five.
The
Fighting Bees improved to 13-2 on the season and head coach Ray Shovlain
notched his 389th win of his career.
Aquinas
(8-5) were led by Jeff Jayson who added 20 points.
Damien Mayo dropped in 18.
The
Fighting Bees will now break for the holidays, and will return to action
on Jan. 5-6 when they travel to the College of the Ozarks Tournament in
Point Lookout, Mo.
The
Bees will take on College of the Ozarks on the first day of the tournament
and Alice Lloyd on the second day.
