IOWA- For
the second time in seven days, the No. 18 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees
defeated Barat College. This time St. Ambrose defeated the Bulldogs by the
score of 99-77. Junior Ryan Johnson played his best game as a Bee,
as he recorded a career high 21 points and nine rebounds.
Barat crawled
out to an early 10-9 lead, but that would be the last time the Fighting
Bees would trail. Over the next ten minutes of the game, St. Ambrose
outscored Barat 26-11 after a Karl Petersen basket to push the lead to
35-21. The Bees would maintain the lead over the final seven minutes of
the first half and took a 53-40 advantage at the break.
The Bees kept
the pressure coming in the second half, as they extended the lead to 25
points following a Johnson 3-pointer with 15:21 remaining. Fro that point
on, Barat was not able to get the Fighting Bees lead under 19 points.
Freddy Lofombo put the exclamation point on the game with a thunderous
tip-dunk with 1:30 remaining to bring the crowd to their feet and give the
Bees a 99-77 victory.
Matt
Fitzpatrick scored 15 points, while Brett Jacobs and Petersen added 11
each. Chad Tancil and Curtis Clark also scored in double figures with 10
points a piece.
