Six players in double figures as SAU moves to 4-0

IOWA- The high
powered offense of the No. 18 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees proved to be too
much for the No. 15 Bethel Pilots. With six players scoring in double
figures, the Bees shot 57% from the field, including an eye popping 10 of
20 from 3-point land to defeat the Pilots 101-94 in their second game of
the St. Ambrose Classic.
St. Ambrose
opened the game by scoring 20 points in the first 6:30 to take an early
20-8 lead. Ryan Johnson would hit his first of three 3-pointers to extend
the lead to 34-21 with nine minutes remaining in the first half, but
Bethel would close the half on an 18-6 run to cut the Bees lead to one.
Bethel opened
the second half with a basket to take a 41-40 lead and would extend the
lead to 46-44 wit h18 minutes remaining. The Bees followed with an 11-2
run capped off by a Matt Fitzpatrick 3-pointer to take a 55-48 lead.
Fitzpatrick then scored five of the Bees next eight points to extend the
lead to 65-53 with 14:30 left.
Bethel
regrouped and went on a 16-6 run to close the gap to two, but the Bees
came right back with seven straight points capped off by another Johnson
3-pointer.
With an 86-82
lead, Fitzpatrick and Johnson would put the exclamation point on the game
with consecutive 3-pointers to extend the lead to 92-82 with 1:30 left.
The two shots killed the Pilots momentum and St .Ambrose walked away with
a 101-94 win.
Fitzpatrick
led all scorers with 28 points, including 19 in the second half. Johnson
followed up his career night with 19 points. Karl Petersen tallied 13
points, eight rebounds and eight assists and Chad Tancil added 17
points.
