Davenport Duo Clinches 14th Win for Fighting Bees
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- After a two-week
break, the No. 8 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees returned to action and did so
in the right fashion with a 68-63 victory over the College of the Ozarks
Bobcats in the McDonald's Cam Com Classic.
Leading the way for the Fighting Bees were
two familiar faces in the Davenport area, Assumption graduate Matt
Fitzpatrick and Central graduate Karl Petersen. Fitzpatrick led all
scorers with 27 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Petersen added a double-double, scoring 22
points and grabbing 13 boards.
The Fighting Bees led by as many as 17, but
had the lead cut to 2 when the Bobcats made a 19-2 run at the end of the
first half and start of the second. They would hang around, but could
never gain the lead as the Fighting Bees never trailed the entire game.
Leading the Bobcats was Brandon Argo, who
dropped in 19. Also in double figures were Heath Sitton, who added 15 and
Andy Baldwin who added 10.
The Fighting Bees will close out the
tournament today against Alice Llyod (Ky.) at 3 p.m. This is the last
non-conference bout before they enter conference play this weekend at home
against Viterbo. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
