Petersen and Bees win 11th straight
DAVENPORT,
IOWA- Senior Karl Petersen had a career day to lead the St. Ambrose
Fighting Bees (26-3, 10-1) to their 11th straight victory with a 96-82 win
over Waldorf. Petersen proved to be too much for the Warriors to handle,
as he poured in a career high 33 points to go with 14 rebounds.
The Bees
jumped out to a 21-11 lead in the early going, following consecutive
3-pointers by Matt Fitzpatrick and Ryan Johnson. Waldorf came right back
with a 19-6 run to capture a three point lead for the Warriors with 7:53
left in the half. St. Ambrose finished the half very strong, with a 22-8
run over the final seven plus minutes to take a 49-38 halftime lead.
Petersen finished the half with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Waldorf was
able to cut the Bee lead to four with 10:02 remaining, but Petersen scored
nine of the Bees next 13 points to give St. Ambrose a momentum gaining 12
point lead. Waldorf never got the lead into single digits from that point
on and the Bees won their 26th game of the year. The Bees outrebounded
Waldorf 45-32.
The win ties
Coach Ray Shovlain's single season record for most victories with 26.
Five Bees
reached double figures. Johnson posted 16, Fitzpatrick and Nick Ferreira
had 11 and Chad Tancil recorded 10. Jeremy Scott and Undre Ellis each
recorded 21 points for Waldorf.
