Fighting Bees Take Out The Trojans

Box Score

DAVENPORT, IA- If the first game of the season is an indication of how a team will do during the year, then the St. Ambrose men's basketball team is in for an exciting season.  They handled Trinity International with ease last night as the Bees came away with an 86-72 victory in Deerfield, IL.  SAU got off to a quick start as they jumped out to a 50-32 halftime lead.  They would never look back, shooting 42% from the floor, including 37% from beyond the three point line.

The Fighting Bees were led by their two seniors Ryan Johnson and Nick Ferreira, who finished with 21 and 17 points, respectively.  Johnson also added eight boards, three assists, and four steals, while Ferreira dished out five assists and grabbed three rebounds.

One of the brightest spots of the game for St. Ambrose was the play of their bench, which combined for 32 points.  Will Howard came off the bench in his first game as a Bee, scoring 13 points, including nailing three of four shots from behind the arc.  Sophomore Chris Washington also finished in double figures for SAU, scoring 14 points.

Leigh Batts led the way for Trinity as he finished with a team high 19 points.  Chad Reilly finished with 16 for the Trojans, who drop to 0-3 on the season.  Trinity shot just 30% from the floor.

St. Ambrose's next game will be Friday when they will host the St. Ambrose Classic, which is a two day tournament, starting Friday at 5:30.
