Fighting Bees Go Down To the Wire At Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Ia- The Fighting Bees led by as many as eleven points Saturday in their 75-73 win at Waldorf, but with 2:23 left to go in the game, SAU lost the lead and nearly the game.  Waldorf took thier first lead of the ball game at hat time on two free throws from Will Pendergrass.

Then with just over one minute remaining, Will Howard came up clutch for the Bees.  Howard made his first basket of the game as he hit a three pointer to give SAU a two point lead.  After a Waldorf turnover, Howard came up big again, hitting a jumper in the lane with twelve seconds left as the shot clock expired, sealing the win for the Fighting Bees.

Ryan Johnson led the Bees (17-12, 8-3) with 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Ante Juric came up big for SAU with precision shooting, scoring 18 points, including five for six from behind the three point line.  Juric also blocked six shots and grabbed seven rebounds.  Brandin Smith put forth a nice effort as well, scoring eleven points, while pulling down seven rebounds.

Waldorf (9-17, 2-10) was led by James Nobles, who had 15 points and nine rebounds.  Aaron Irving added thirteen points for the Warriors, while Pendergrass and Buck Scheel scored twelve and eleven a piece.

That win puts the Bees in a first place tie for the MCC lead with William Penn.  SAU's next game is Wednesday, when it will be Senior Night.  Gametime is set for 7:30.
