SAU Loses in Florida

12/28/04
Box Score

TAMPA, FL- The Fighting Bees left the cold Iowa weather for the warm skies of Florida during Christmas break, where they took on the University of Tampa on Tuesday.  Tampa (8-3) got out to a one point lead at halftime, but used 53% shooting during the second period to pull away from St. Ambrose (8-7).

St. Ambrose shot 50% in the first half, but went cold in the second, shooting just 36% from the field.  Senior Ryan Johnson led SAU with 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Ante Juric had his best outing of the season, scoring 17 points, while Chris Washington also added 17, while grabbing six boards and dishing out five assists.  Senior Nick Ferreira added twelve points for the Fighting Bees.

Tampa shot just 48% from the free throw line, which helped the St. Ambrose stay in the game.  They overcame that however, because of the outstanding effort by Christopher Evans, who scored 16 points and pulled down 21 rebounds.  Kevin Byrd led Tampa with 20 points.  Josh Shave and Mark Borders scored 15 and 13 respectively.

SAU will remain in Florida, as they'll play Eckerd College in Tampa, on New Year's Eve.
