SAU Drops Third Straight Game

TAMPA, FL- St. Ambrose spent New Years Eve in sunny Florida, but their stay wasn't as warm as they would have liked, losing to Eckerd College 86-82.  St. Ambrose (8-8) was out rebounded 43-31.  Eckerd (7-4) got out to an eleven point lead at the half, but SAU closed the gap late in the game.  However, it was not enough as the Fighting Bees lost by four.

St. Ambrose was led by Ryan Johnson and Chris Washington, who had 17 points a piece.  Nick Ferreira finished with 16, while dishing out five assists.  Ante Juric scored in double figures for the second straight game, with eleven points, one game after scoring a season high of 17 versus Tampa.

Eckerd had two players score over twenty points, as Matt Cenatus and Steve Berg scored 29 and 25, respectively.  Chris Maddux was the only other player in double figures, scoring ten.  Craig Hazel dominated the boards for Eckerd, with a game high twelve rebounds.

The Fighting Bees will now get ready for the Midwest Classic Conference season to begin.  They'll open up the MCC schedule January 5 against The Franciscan in Lee Lohman Arena.  Game time is set for 7:30.
