Olivet Beats SAU Again

12/17/05
Box Score
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Fighting Bees were looking to extract some sort of revenge Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Bourbonnais, Illinois to play Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers defeated SAU 83-64 in the Fighting Bee's season opener this year, making this game more than just a mid-season contest. When Saturday's game was all over though, the result was very much the same, with the Tigers winning again, 100-79.

Olivet Nazarene (8-6) controlled the tempo early and often. Nick Livas connected on a three-pointer for the Tigers, just twenty seconds into the game, giving the Tigers the first lead of the game. That would turn out to be the only lead, as SAU (6-7) trailed for the entire game. The Fighting Bees were behind  47-32 at halftime, thanks in part to their eleven turnovers in the first half. The Tigers hit five of their eight three-pointers in the first half to open the fifteen point lead.

The second half was more of the same, as Olivet led by as much as 25 points. SAU never quit though, cutting that 25-point lead to just nine with 6:35 remaining. That would be as close as the Fighting Bees would get the rest of the game however, as ONU finished the game on a 21-9 run. The Tigers shot 61% in the second half, while finishing 55% for the game.

SAU was led by Andrew Bryant's 22 points and eight rebounds. Chris Washington finished with 16 points and four steals, but turned the ball over nine times, seven of which came in the first half. Ricky Mojek scored eleven for SAU, including making three of seven from behind the arc. St. Ambrose finished shooting 40% from the field.

Olivet Nazarene had four players in double figures. Livas led all scorers with 23 points, while also pulling down eleven rebounds. Stan Chismark wasn't far behind, scoring 21, while recording eight assists. Zach Birkey and Phil French finished with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

The Fighting Bees will try to turn things around this week, as they'll travel to Chicago to take part in the eight team Saint Xavier Tournament from December 21-23. SAU's first game will be against Siena Heights (Mich.) at 7:00 on Wednesday.
