Fighting Bees Drop Below .500

Iowa -- For the first time this season, SAU dropped below the .500 mark,
as they lost their second straight game, a 71-56 loss to Upper Iowa.
The two teams played evenly in the first half, with neither team leading
by more than eight points. SAU (5-6) shot just 15% from three-point range,
while shooting 38% from the field. Upper Iowa (2-10) had an identical
shooting percentage in the half. The Fighting Bees overcame an early five
point deficit to lead by five at the break, 32-27.
The second half brought even more shooting woes for the Fighting Bees.
They shot just 23% in the half, while Upper Iowa came out firing, shooting
54%. SAU was also one for eight from behind the arc, giving them a 14%
clip from three-point range for the game. SAU also shot just 57% from the
free throw line. The Fighting Bees were out rebounded 43-32. Amazingly
however, SAU was down by just five points with 2:45 remaining. Upper Iowa
then used an 11-1 run to seal the game, as they hit their free throws down
the stretch, finishing 15 for 19 from the charity stripe.
Ricky Mojek led the Fighting Bees in scoring for the third time this
season, scoring 13 points off the bench. Chris Washington added eleven and
five assists, but also turned the ball over six times. Adam Fahrenkrog
added nine points and ten rebounds for St. Ambrose.
The Peacocks were led by four players in double figures. Nick Larson led
all scorers with 15, while Eric Ritter added 13. Ernest Addae scored 12
and added 13 rebounds. Cody Lycke finished with eleven for Upper Iowa.
SAU will try to turn things around on Saturday, when they'll host Buena
Vista in Lee Lohman Arena. Tip-off is set for 3:00.
