August or November? Bees fall in home opener

DAVENPORT -- The postman's code is "Neither rain nor sleet nor snow..." and it almost got that nasty for the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees first home soccer game of the season Monday.

Unfortunately, unlinke the postmen, the Fighting Bees couldn't deliver, and fell to the Trinity International Trojans, 1-0.

On a day remenicent of Thanksgiving weather, the Fighting Bees sloshed through, sending shot after shot towards the Trojan net, but to no avail. Clint Mattingly had three pretty good looks but wasn't able to find the back of the net, while a number of other Bee forwards ended with the same fate.

Trinity broke through in the 64th minute when Salvador Dias drove a corner kick into the middle of the box and Kyle Bacon was there to splash it into the net for the only goal of the match.

The Bees will host Hannibal-LaGrange at the Davenport Soccer Complex on Saturday, with game time set for 4:00 p.m.
