The first day of November was a day that held a lucky finishing touch by the SAU men's soccer team. The higher seeded Iowa Wesleyan College was stopped in their tracks as just 26 seconds into overtime, SAU senior Rob Eckert knocked in the winning penalty kick. MORE >>

'06 Bees hoping to write the history books
News: The Fighting Bees have been eagerly awaiting this season’s commencement since playing in the regional semi-final last year. The experienced 2006 team now knows what it takes to be compete on the national level, and that knowledge will help them this season as they will be playing four teams ranked in the top 20 in the nation.
The varsity returns four seniors and two juniors from a year ago, while the sophomore class will dominate playing time, as they bring back several players who had a lot of varsity experience last year. The Fighting Bees will be looking to their talented newcomers to have an immediate impact.
In succession each of the last four seasons have been the best in the school’s soccer history, and the team goals this year are to make history once again, by achieving national recognition. With pre-season underway, the coaching staff is convinced that this year’s Bees squad will field the best team SAU has ever seen.

Bees end regular season with win
News: With a win over Judson, the SAU men’s soccer team ended the regular season
unbeaten at home. Coming into the match Judson was ranked 1st in the region and 20th in
the nation. Judson scored the first goal in the 27th minute of the match, but the Bees
responded shortly after, as Clint Mattingly scored a remarkable free kick from 20 yards out.
At half the teams were deadlocked at one goal each. Greg Lehman gave SAU the lead 2-1 with a goal,
assisted by Clint Mattingly in the first five minutes of the second half. In the 70th minute Lehman
scored another goal to put the bees up 3-1. The scoring continued when Carlos Guillen of Judson
scored to bring them back within one goal. Senior, Tom Hein scored for the Bees just two minutes
later to assure the win. Defensively Chad Rhoades, Jake Yarnel, and Garet Alderson led the team
to a victory allowing only 11 shots on goal.

SAU finishes second in conference
News: After the victory against
Viterbo, the SAU men's soccer team won the next three conference games to
up their record to 8-6-2 overall and end conference 5-1-1. On October 8th
the Bees defeated Waldorf with a score of 17-1. Next the Bees faced Mount
Mercy. Clint Mattingly scored two goals, and had two assists, and SAU
keeper Nick Rojas recorded the shut out for the Bee’s 5-0 victory. The
last conference game of the regular season ended with a win over Ashford
College with a score of 5-0. Rob Eckert, and Greg Lehman each had two
goals and senior, Nick Rojas recorded back to back shut outs for the SAU.
The Bee’s ended the regular season of play second in conference.
News: The stinging started early for the Bees
with two goals in the first 5 minutes of play, Greg Lehman scored in at 2
minutes off an assist from Max Muchow. In the 5th minute Chad
Rhoades scored the bee’s second goal with an assist from Clint Mattingly.
At 13:00, Mattingly himself scored with a Dustin Freeman assist. In the
second half, the Bees scored another 3 goals. Muchow assisted for a 2nd
time for Mattingly’s 2nd goal in the 42nd minute,
Nick Abraham crossed one in for Tom Hein at 77:00, and Mike Schuenemann
fed Ryan Davis for a late goal with five minutes to play. GK Nick Rojas
notched his 3rd shut-out of the year.
