St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top junior college golfers in the State of Illinois.
Craig McConville, a sophomore at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, Illinois, has signed a letter of intent to attend St. Ambrose in the Fall 2003. Illinois Valley is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and competes at the Division II level in the Arrowhead Athletic Conference.
McConville had a competitive stroke average of 75.0 in the Fall 2002 season and was named to the 2002 Arrowhead Men’s Golf All Conference Team. He received All Region IV recognition both his freshman and sophomore year at Illinois Valley.
He was recognized as the LaSalle News-Tribune Golfer of the Year in 2000 and competed at the 2002 NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship in Phoenix, AZ.
McConville was the boy’s golf regional champion his senior year at Mendota High School (IL) and finished in 19th place at the 2000 Illinois High School Boys State Golf Tournament. He is a 2001 graduate of Mendota High School (IL).
“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Craig McConville joining our golf program next season, “ said Coach Griebel. “He come’s from a very talented and successful junior college program at Illinois Valley and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall.”
McConville will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Golf Tournament nine of the last eleven years. St. Ambrose is ranked 15th in the most recent NAIA Men’s Golf National Poll.
