Ashley Alvarez and Marcus Brand each earned Conference Athlete of
the Week honors for last week's performance at the Loras Mid Week
Invitational and Cornell Relays. This is each athlete's
second conference athlete of the week award this season.
Alvarez placed Second in the 800m run with a conference leading
time of 2:28.65 and also placed 3rd in the 1500m
(5:03.41) at the Loras Mid-Week. She also competed in 1500m run
at the Cornell Relays on Saturday and placed fifth with a
conference leading time of 4:57.69, which also sets a new school
record at St. Ambrose.
Brand placed first in the Discus with a throw of 149’4” at the
Loras Mid-Week on Wednesday. On Saturday, he competed at the
Cornell Relays, taking 2nd place in the Hammer Throw
with a conference leading throw and NAIA “B” standard qualifying
mark of 157’ 7” and also placed fifth in the Shot Put with a
season best throw of 47’ 2¼”. That Hammer Throw distance advances
Brand to the National Track and Field competition in Fresno,
California.
