The St. Ambrose Track and Field teams
are coming off a very successful conference meet in which the
men's team placed first, making them the only SAU team to win
conference in their respective sport during the Spring semester. The women's team finished a close second place, next to
Mount Mercy at the MCC meet in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Bees had several members of the team recognized this week for
their outstanding seasons as the Midwest Classic Conference
released their All-Conference team Monday, featuring ten St.
Ambrose athletes. There are seven selections on the women's side,
including Ashley Alvarez (800m, 1500m, 4x800), Katie Brimeyer
(100m Hurdles), Molly Fisher (5000m, 4x800), Johnna Gamble
(Discuss), Michelle Maciag (Pole Vault), Jessica Olsen (4x800),
and Sarah Sheedy (4x800). Alvarez, Fisher, Olsen, and Sheedy broke
the school record in the 4x800m relay at last week's MCC meet,
running a time of 10:04.39, which is four seconds better than the
previous mark, which was set in 1999.
The men's team earned three selections to the All-Conference team.
Marcus Brand (Hammer Throw), Alex Flores (10,000m), and Dan
Knewitz (800m) were all tabbed by the conference. Brand will be
competing at the NAIA National Tournament in the Hammer Throw at
Fresno, California, May 22-26, on the campus of Fresno State
University.
